Not sure if there is anything specific for the 1.8T but I know on my 2.0 and TDI I'll cover those things and go nuts.
So, on a 1.8 you don't have to cover anything but the battery and alternator? I'll just be using a regular hose, not a powerwasher. Mine broke. lol. But I don't use the engine cover. I go coverless so you can see my fancy silicone hoses.

sadly my car is down : ( . i washed the motor yesterday.and when i went to pull it back in garage it was sputtering. so i took it for a ride hoping that heat would evaporate whatever water. well it sputtered badly and all the excess gas that wasn't being burned melted my cat. i mean the whole underside of my car was completely orange and smoldering. so hopefully nothing else is ruined and i can put a high flow on pretty easily.

no not at all. but i really didn't put much water on it. i've been detailing cars for about 10 years and i've never covered anything. just careful around certain electronics. but i should have known how terrible the coils are on the 2.0 and water. i get the every once in awhile sputter just from moisture til the car is warm. guess i'll replace the coil when i change the exhaust.

so for anyone with a 2.0 or 1.8 i' d say. cover whatever you can. these coils are terrible.
