Default dirty headliner

What's the best way to clean the headliner? I have the stock headliner still and I'm noticing it's getting kinda nasty around the sunroof. I was told to try just regular carpet cleaner and scrub it out but I'm afraid I'll losen it and it'll start to sag. Right now it's on great, and I don't want to mess with a saggy headliner, I'd rather it be dirty. Any suggestions? Would oxyclean stuff be too strong?

I've had the same issue with my headliner...leaving it open..rain coming in, and making the headliner look like it was peed on. Yup!

Anywho, to clean mine, I used carpet cleaner and scrubbed it with a soft bristle brush. I had to scrub the ENTIRE headliner though. My headliner isn't sagging or anything after doing that a few times, so I think you don't have anything to worry about.

I would think also, that you should not get the headliner too wet. That would probably help keep it from sagging.
I have used Resolve to clean a little spot here and there, and it worked great. I wasn't cleaning anything major though, just a smudge here and there.

i used some generic foaming carpet cleaner on the light gray headliner in my rabbit with decent results. i wouldn't say it was perfect, but noticeably better than it was. haven't had to do anything in the beetle but vacuum it, gotta love a black headliner!
