Default TechWax 2.0 gets a thumbs down from me.

I spent an entire day at the beginning of summer to work on the paint.

I went with Meguiar's wash, claybarred the entire car, and did a nice rubdown with meguiar's swirl remover.

(In hindsight, I should've invested the time to run my DA polisher and done the swirls right, but that's a project for the next couple weekends.)

I went with Techwax 2.0 because I had heard good things about it, and being as I'm not going to car shows or anything like that, I thought I'd try a consumer product for convenience.

Coming from a guy who used to put a coat of Zaino on his Camaro every other weekend, I'm older now, get sore in places more than I used to, and have a busier schedule than I used to.

Anyway, my first disappointment came pretty much after I removed the first application. I really couldn't tell any difference in where I had applied the product over where I had only just washed, clayed, and swirl polished.

I soldiered on and did the rest of the car, and then reapplied for a second coat.

For about a month things were ok. The paint beaded real nice, washed up easily and I was a little more satisfied. However, after that first month, things went downhill fast.

Bugs are hell on this stuff. A half hour drive at dusk pretty much turns the entire front of the car a nasty speckled mess.
Everywhere a bug hits turns dull and flat and/or turns into a blackish greasy spot that is damn tough to wash off. I've had to wash, re-wash, and re-wash the front on my weekend washes to get all the goop off.

I know it's probably not fair to compare it to Zaino, but when I was using that on my beater car only once every 3 months, bugs and crap on the front either didn't stick or washed off with very little effort.

I'm not sure if I'm going to try out another consumer product or not. At this point, the money I save over Zaino products, even though Zaino takes a couple more steps to apply isn't enough to justify the headache of having to re-wash multiple times just to get the car clean in between waxes.
