Default Road Line Paint

How does one get it off?

My town decided, in their infinite wisdom, to paint a single yellow line on a 2 way road that can hardly fit 2 Bugs side by each. They do this overnight, just before a small rain comes through. The paint isn't dry at all, and I'm driving to work.

Now I have some fun yellow paint splash all up my driver side rear quarter, under the wheel wells, and the backside of that bar under the door.

I'm trying to avoid a whole repaint. Someone suggested a clay bar, but I wanted to hear what you guys thought.

I have heard of a claybar removing paint overspray. Try it - it can't hurt your car.

I have to correct this. A claybar CAN hurt your paint if it's not used well.

My TS had some on the fender well and a bit on the rear fender. I got most of it off with my fingernail. The stubborn spots I got off with a credit card. Took a little time, but I got most of it off.

I recently went through this with my C5 A6 Avant, white line paint all over the passenger side lowers and doors.

A claybar will remove it, but it typically takes some elbow grease to get it all off. I ended up switching over to a rag soaked with Goo-Gone to wipe the bulk of the paint off, then followed with a clay bar. This will remove any wax, so it would be a good idea to polish / wax the area after the paint has been removed.

I should have said "if properly used, the clay bar will not damage your paint". Like anything else I suppose. Anyway, let us know what happens.

No worries.

OP: What, if anything, have you tried?

I use tar remover or lacquer thinner to remove road paint. For the wheel wells, though, it's a pain in the butt to get all the road paint off so I just spray paint it.
