Default Black marks?

I have a light yellow NBC and constantly get black scuff marks below the driver's door. Takes some serious scrubbing to get them off. I know that it's me, but I can't figure out what I'm doing. I wear white tennis shoes and have never felt my foot touch the car. It's driving me nuts! Anyone else do this or is it just my club foot? All replies appreciated (maybe).

You aren't the only one. I often wonder at the magical appearance of these marks when I NEVER feel my feet even touch the paint there. But, low and behold, boom. There they are.

You and I must be the only ones this happens to. I am amazed that every day I see a new streak-seems like something leaking, but I guess it's my white soled tennis shoes causing the BLACK STREAKS! Really looks bad and takes some serious rubbing to get them off.

No, it's not just you two. I get it two sometimes. I am lucky though. My car is Dark Grey, so it doesn't show up as much. when I had my yellow car, it would show up really bad. I would like to know what the stuff is as well.

Somewhere here on the org. I have read that VW sprays beeswax on the inner side of the metal panels.(This is prolly where the famous crayola smell comes from.)

It's this that may be the problem. It's really sticky and would attract road dirt and brake dust to make it look like a streak.

I've had it appear on my windows in the Summer.

Maybe the temps will rule this out for you, but it's just a guess.

Oh yeah, goo gone worked for me.

Keeping the running boards covered in a few coats of wax helps alleviate the problem, or you can just cover them up with custom retro running boards. You can't get black rubber scuff marks when the whole running board is black rubber.

Now I like that idea especially because I have a ding on the right side. Got a link? Thanks!

There isnt a link. I don't know if there is a thread on the new forums (yup i know, i'm becoming an org elder) with the templates.

But its just home depot carpet runner material and a lot of 3m trim tape.

see the ding

where'd it go?

It shouldn't be too hard to eye up with a good blade and taking your time. If you can't find it in the flooring department (on the little rolls) i can get the home depot sku number for you next time i go to my local one.

edit: found a link where i posted the templates i used

I've actually been considering painting (or using vinyl) my running boards black. It makes the car somehow, sleeker, sexxier.

But, we'll see. I have an awful lot of projects for Sting that I am working on. BOXES of parts in the living room. And I still haven't gotten started on learning body work from this guy yet who will be teaching me soon. Then I do my votex kit.

I've decided to have my running boards "Rhino" sprayed. Should help hide the ding on the passenger side and if the streaks continue at least they'll be on the black spray coating. I'll post a pic if it looks good-if not, then you'll know not to do it!

Spent another 20-25 minutes yesterday getting 6 more black streaks off the "running boards". Today I had then sprayed and just picked it up. Looks great-just like retro running boards. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

What exactly did you use to rhino coat them? Is that something you can buy at Home Depot? Do you know the cost? I have a white one and has the same problem...

Sorry for the late post-just got back on the site. I used a guy that sprays truck beds-it wasn't Rhino; some competing product. He charged me $100 ($50 a side) and I think it was a bargain. 4 months later and still looks new. I'm well pleased.

Prolly Line-X. that would be the only competitor for spray in liners that I know of. Looks real though. think I may instead go the carpet runner/3M dealy thing instead.

use a mister clean magic eraser bar and it will remove black scuffs just as easily as martha stewart makes candy for a baby

Boy I wish that spray on liner came in purple!! My running boards aren't even smooth, they are dimply like an orange peel and it's a nightmare getting those marks off!! That's why I haven't even bothered trying to cover them in vinyl because I figured it wouldn't stick well. I will definetly try the majic eraser!!!

Looks like you might be able to get a purple spray liner!
