The way I see it...

If you love your car and have done something to it yourself, then I think it's worthy of showing.
I may not have rims, or have a lowering kit on it; but I have a lot of small mods that I have done myself. That is why I want to show it ... and because I love cars! Being in a car show is a ton of fun

I think if you have the chance to be in one, then you should enter! You love your car! That should tell you that it's good enough to show

You do not need to have "cover of the magazine ready" car to enter the show. Any car is good enough . Having modifications will help with points, but clean, shiny car will draw attention and win ( if that's what you are looking for ). Clean everything, and when that's done do it one more time Then, clay, buff, polish and wax. Bring your car out, let people see it, that's what shows are for.
Oh, yeah, one more thing... it's a ton of fun!!!!
