Default Headlight wax?

I was reading another member's post about waxing your headlights? I assume this is to prevent heavy oxidation.

What product, and how is it applied? Or is this a bunch of shenanigans?

Curious, as I have my brand new headlights in, and I want to protect them.

Not a wax, a sealant! Here for a product!
Wolfgang Plastik Surface Sealant forms a clear barrier over your plastic lenses to shield them from contamination and UV rays.

Meguiars PlastiX is excellent and is readily available just about anywhere. It is also a mild polish so every time you use it it removes oxidation. That Wolfgang product is probably great too but I've never seen it anywhere so I've never tried it.

In theory you can wax almost anything, but most things don't need to be waxed, your headlights included.

Kelly,

The item I sent you to is a sealer, not a wax. I deal with commercial polycarbonate products (the material yours, and everyone's headlite lenses are made of), and a sealer is a real good idea.

All materials are porous to some degree, even glass. Filling in and sealing the pores, prevents pollutants from entering these pores and causing deposits and damage. A sealer may or may not really provide ultra-violet protection, that's debatable in my mind.

Wolfgang's product is the last in a three step process of polishing up old lenses and doesn't contain any polish. If you want to go a step further then use both products, kind of like clay-baring your paint, before applying a sealer, even when it's new.

I'm getting ready to use the whole kit to detail the ones on my '05. They are not bad now, but I don't want them to get that way.

Btw- do it to all your light lenses, not just the headlights. Details and protects.
