Default A whole new carpet for $150!

Was just browsing for various idiotic Beetle related things to spend my money on, and found this:

1998-2008 VW Beetle - New Beetle Carpet 2 Door Coupe - eBay (item 390278648657 end time Feb-06-11 15:44:41 PST)

I had no idea you could buy a whole new carpet for that cheap. That's cheaper than seat covers! And they do headliners, too.

Bargain

That does seem like a great deal. Maybe, too good to be true?

I noticed the other day, on another thread, that someone was trying to dye their gray carpet black with spray cans. I think the final pic was titled " I think it might need another coat". Bless 'em, gotta give them cred for the effort, but for $150 I'd rather get this and risk it. Can't bring myself to let them know about this after their hard work. After all, effort is 80% of the battle and I wouldn't want to make them feel bad

Yeah, I believe that was UK orger, Shamrockez, who did the dye job. It can be done, using Duplicolor Fabric and carpet spray- designed for such a thing. It would take several cans but a good job can be achieved. You'd have to apply the paint, followed by brushing in the first couple of coats, just to work it in the mat of the carpet.

But yeah, for a buck-fifty, you can't go wrong, and pays for itself, considering the time you will save

I know..either I've turned lazy in my old age (quite possible), or I've developed OCD about how my car looks (also very possible, since I've spent a crazy amount of time searching how to remove water stains from light beige cloth seats, and flippin' car seat covers). I just can't imagine taking the time to strip down the carpet and do that stuff - and I'd be freaking about doing a bad job. In fact, I KNOW it would be a bad job, because I haven't the patience. But credit to him, Beetle love is a many varied and wonderful thing.

I just replaced the carpet in my 2000 with black carpet I bought from autocarpetoriginals.com last August. I looked at the bank statement, and the total cost was $132.61.
