Not true. Just about every clay bar I've bought, even states to mix soap and water, to use as a lubricant. I've been claybarring for 11 years, have always done it that way, and have never once had an issue.

Yeah, I have read the same thing too on many bars but I haven't had one issue with using water/soap. I always wondered if it was just a ploy from the companies to get people to spend more money buying their lubricant.

I just clayed my red turbo s last weekend using Meguiar's Clay Kit. The result was absolutely amazing. It took me about 2 hours of washing, drying, claying and waxing altogether, so it wasn't that bad at all. I definitely recommend Meguiar's Clay Kit, it only costs about $22 and is easy to use. The kit came with a microfiber towel, 2 clay bars (80g each), a quick detailer (lubricant) and a quick wax. The quick wax works really well, all you need to do is to spray it on the finished paint (after clay) and wipe it off with another clean microfiber towel, and the car shines like it just came out of a detail shop

I suspect that "quick wax" is a sealer/wax, which is okay, I use a sealer after clay bar and before clear carnuba hard paste waxing. I'd bet it's staying power is about a "0". Great follow-up would be a couple coats of carnuba, easily 3-6 months or longer.

I'm not sure if it's a sealer/wax but it's definitely a polymer-based spray wax that helps repel water like most of the paste wax would do. I had some doubts at first but it turned out working really well. Its easy-on application definitely helps when a quick detail is needed, especially when it rains a lot here in Oregon.

M - after you clay bar your car do you re-wash it at any point in the process?

Here's how I *think* it should work....but correct me if I'm wrong:

Wash/Dry
Clay Bar
Sealer
Wax

Here's the process I use:

1.) Wash with dish soap (ONLY time you want to do this, is when stripping off old coat of wax)
2.) Claybar
3.) Wash again (with normal car wash soap)
3.) Dry
4.) Use wax / polish of your choice
