Question Re-Spraying a Bug Question..

.
.
Why does everyone keep saying, you need to take off the fenders, and other parts etc. In order to get a good respray ?

The Pink Bug that has been sprayed on here, looks Cool and they left the fenders etc on

Just always wondered why people have said to take off and spray seperately

I would guess to get good coverage in the seams where the fenders and body meet.

Thumbs up

Actually you don't have to separate any body panels or remove anything, i.e. lights, trim, badges, etc. Just all depends on how quality of a job you want. Part of the difference between a $1200 paint job and a $6000 paint job. And "going pink" thread you are following is a complete color change, which requires even more painting of areas which generally don't even get painted when you simply repaint or "refresh" an existing color. Also anytime you mask as opposed to remove, you run the risk of a paint "edge" which is much more susceptible to peeling. I'm sure you red threads where someone is having trouble with clearcoat peeling.

Then when it comes to painting the bumpers, to do these properly requires an additive to give the paint the ability to flex and not crack. Another paint edge susceptible to peeling. Of course most novices, or shops doing cheap jobs, simply paint over everything with the same coats of paint.
