How often should the bug's leather seats be conditioned to keep them soft and not start to split due to dryness?

I condition my seats about once a month with Lexol. I've used MANY different types of leather conditioner and none of them out-performs Lexol.

You may have a hard time finding it in retail stores (I know I did). If you have a TSC (Tractor Supply Company) they carry and its $6 or $7 for a bottle that will last you a REALLY long time.

Ditto on the Lexol. I clean and condition my seats about one every three/four months and condition every month. I've had my Katzkin leather seats for three years now and people are always telling me they look brand new.

I use a product called Dr. Jacksons Hide Rejuvenator, I get it at Tandy Leather or online. Works great. I have also used Lexol, but prefer Dr. Jacksons. I apply once a month and let it soak in overnight and then rub down the next day.

I've been using Black Gold. I haven't tried anything else because the bottle has lasted quite some time.

When I first got my '01 NB, I treated them every week for about a month. I don't think it had ever been done before. The previous owners didn't take the greatest care of it. Now I do it at least once a month.

Default Crayola Crayon Smell.

Anyone else experienced this? I test drove about 4 used beetles and they all had this smell. Anyone know how to get rid of it? Or where it comes from?

It seems to be quite common, mine has it to. If you do a search, there are threads on this. I just keep my sunroof popped up most of the time (of course not when it's raining). Hey we're in Sac too!

Question Cleaning perforated seats?

While we're on the subject...I bought some Meguires Gold Leather cleaner and conditioner, and having trouble getting it out of the perforations in the seats. Works great but, I don't want to wear it when I'm done. Suggestions on getting & or keeping it out??

That's exactly why I DON'T use that product on my car. Its too thick and its a PITA to get out. Try a toothpick. Don't poke so deep that it 'widens' the perferations, but just enough to clean the excess out. After you've completed the 1,000,000th hole, buy something that's not as thick, such as Lexol.

What are you using to apply and wipe clean with?

Meguiars leather cleaner is the only product I use for the inteior, seats, dash, door cards, etc. I use the 2 step though Aloe based, 1 step cleaner and one step conditioner. The big key with it is to use a proper applicator (can buy em at Target, Wal Mart, etc.) and don't use a lot. A lil goes a long way with it, massage it in, wipe any excess with a clean cloth. Works great on the black interior in the vert and in the NB.
