Cool

I'll bet that 1.0 litre Nissan Micra isn't much quicker than the old circa 1960 1000 cc Morris Minor ....

I'll bet you're wrong... I was just back in Ireland in march and I can tell you that 1000 cc circa 1960 hasn't a hope in hell against the same displacement in a modern engine. I rented an '04 micra and it's all the car you'd need for day-to-day driving (euro-wise... anyway). The car in the photo, however, is the previous model and is more likely the sort driven by school teachers and learners....

Ouch Whiplash is a nasty injury that doesn't go away soon. Please be sure to get the proper treatment. Your friend was indeed lucky to have finished the window before the crash.

Thanks for all the sympathies people - I have been checking in still, but have been too sad to post your comments have all helped make me feel much better though *especially the little animation above - made me grin* - so thanks big time - I've been very upset - people don't understand and say it's just metal - she's not!!!! But it's true I have a lot to be thankful for and things could have been much worse.

Just got a long term temporary job at the school I wanted, so that has taken my mind off things a bit, but I have to walk past her every day in that condition then the pain is made worse because I have to get in the "like for like" replacement car - a Vauxhall Meriva - a 1.6 gutless piece of petrol fueled junk!!! How is that like???!!!! (Costing us about £7 a day to run!!!!) The garage are finally going to take her first thing tomorrow morning though, so she should soon be on the mend also I emailed the guy we bought the stickers from - he's going to send me a new bumper sticker for free as a coming home pressie for her

Just to clear things up - it was a Vauxhall Astra, supposedly doing 30, but who didn't brake, smashed into the micra, smashing that one into us. I drove a really old micra once, it was much better than the new model, but I can't speak for the one in the picture - judging by the damage though, they aren't the safest cars on the road! My neck is still crunching, but not too bad - I can still work, and my partner is still in one piece!

Well, once again thanks for all the sympathies - it really does help - even the ones who made light of it - tis true - what workmanship, when the light cover can cope with all that!!

I'll be back - and so will Jo, and better than ever - cos Flavorfly(??) was right - I'll cherish her even more than I already did from now on (which is really saying something!)

Thanks all. I think I'm more or less mended - although my neck doesn't 'alf grate and grind now at times! But is much less achey and painful. Caan't claim for whiplash as it was either claim for it and turn down a job, or take the job and start immediately (and could be a permanent job in a few months) so it's caused me pain but no time off work.

Heard from the garage yesterday afternoon - over £3000 worth of damage, but she's gone down to Truro to be fixed and should be home next weekend

The guy we got the stickers from also said he'd send us a new bumper sticker for nowt

I can't wait to get my baby back! Did think after the fact that maybe I shoulda lied and said the accident scat my (non existant) spoiler off got my eye on some crome surrounds/eyelids for the headlights too, now I've got a job. She's going to get so spoiled!

Hey!!!! I'm a school teacher!!!!! And I had an 06 micra as my last crash care car (in June ) - it was a heap of junk, although not as much of a heap of junk as the meriva they've given me this time round. That is only meant for inner city commuting - no guts, and you can only fit £30 petrol in from empty to full. I've never had evil thoughts about a car until I met this one! I would so love to see it dropped from a great height! The micra did at least have more guts, but that was about the only thing going for it. Ok for short commutes I guess, but I do a lot of miles and I miss my baby so much

(BTW, the guy who owned the micra in the picture is a computer programmer)

My wife and her family is from waterford ireland and within her extended family and friends I counted no fewer than six micras, it became a bit of a joke: apparently residency in waterford comes with the requirement that you drive a Micra (my buddy from dublin says the same is true among his friends etc only with 307's). Our rental was an '04 and it seemed pretty good to me, though it wouldn't be my first choice auto, i might lean towards the citroen c4 coupe or c3 hatch...

I'm glad I don't live in Ireland!

Actually, I liked the Micra at first, it seemed really fast after driving a 1.9 automatic non-turbo diesel slug (being petrol and manual) but then we got a flat, and had to put on the spare wheel - unless you're on flat ground the weight of the car bends the jack provided (we were lucky and had a fully equiped garage) and had to drive it to the tyre place on one of those space saving motorbike wheels - it was inches lower on that corner. Just bad luck I guess! I really did like the old old micra though - was my first car. Happy memories

OMG I just saw this. I'm glad to hear you're doing better. I can't believe the rear glass didn't break either. I know what it's like waiting for your baby to get fixed. Glad you're getting yours soon Congratulations on getting the job too!

Yes, it's a very sad situation that hopefully will be fixed this weekend. I blew a timing belt and bent some valves. Thank God John can do most of the work himself otherwise it would be a $3- $5 thousand dollar job My car has been in the garage since August 17th, I can't wait for it to be fixed.

Ouch that is so sad I can't imagine being without my baby for that long. At least it is fixable - when I did that to my very old micra it was too broken to be fixed - at least too old to spend that amount of cash on. Bet you can't wait for this weekend
