Default Just Bought 2007 Yellow Beetle, But...

Just bought a new 2007 Yellow Beetle, but it's not like the like 1/24" Model that I've had for years. When did they change the headrest from the open headrests to closed? When did they change the back-up lights from ones in the rear circle lights at the bottom of the car to integrated into the rear lights? Also, the fog circle lights are no longer at the bottom of the front of the car. When was this change? I really think the closed headrests and the missing little circle lights make the car less cute. I do love my car, though, I just wish they did make those changes.

Thanks in advance.
Tina

All that changed in 2006, I believe. I like the changes. Makes it look more sleak.

The lights changed in 2006. The donut headrests changed to solids in 01 or 02 because they're safer -- less chance for whiplash, I think.

Wow, I can't believe I wasn't paying that close attention to the headrests. I did like them. I parked next to an old New Yellow Beetle today at the grocery store and REALLY saw the changes that I didn't like. Your right, it is sleaker, but I liked that cute factor.

I got my first wave. I really tried hard! I was waving like a lune. It was an old yellow Bettle in great condition. I'm glad that was my first.

Thanks!

Mid year 2002. My MIL's 2002 NB has "donuts", my 2002 has solids.

You have much to catch up on, grasshopper.

Welcome to the Org! And, Congratulations to you!

I agree with you, on the backup lights and head rests. With the new design of the backup lights and the black grill at the bottom, look at it, it appears to be smiling at you.

I do not like the center console, my wife’s 2000 NB has one and it interferes with my driving. Every time I shift into the even gears my elbow hits it and it’s not funny. The center console should be a removable option.

I also do not like the 'corners' that are on the nose, rear and fenders.

Default changes

the square head rest actually changed in 2003 in the US. Unless you have a sport or turbo from 2002. Also the blinker signals on the mirrors actually changed in 2004 in the US for all GLS. But in 2003 the turbo beetles and convertible's came with them on the mirrors, also the Beetle GLS made in mid-late 2003 came with the blinker signals on the mirror's. Other wise 2003-and down to 1998 came on underneath the mirror. And one last thing the built in CD in the dash didnt come out in all Beetles in 2005. But it also came in some 2004 models, like the sports, turbo's, or the sateille blue special edition. the 2004 GLS with in dash CD player didnt come out probably when they were made in mid-late 2004. That's all.

Our 2003 TDI had mirror blinkers. He was an early model, we bought him in May of 2003.

Blinkers changed to the mirror in 2003.5 (I remember now)
CD changer was in the center consol in 2003 as well but went back to being in the back in 2004.
The square non donut headrests changed in 2003.5 I believe (someone with a Cyber Green Color Concept could tell you if Im right or not)

My sisters bug is a 2002 Snap Orange Color Concept with that older center consol. It gets in my way when driving so I always move it up. She hates it when I do that.

I completely agree with you hopkins. When I first bought my '06 I really wasn't sure how I felt about it. I always liked the beetle 'cuz it was cute and the '06 looks more sharp. I've now come to looove my '06's design. I would, however, prefer a pre-06 exterior and the 06 interior

not sure if it was just your wording, but the backup lights aren't in the taillights, they're at the bottom in the grill area, the white part of the taillights is your signal light, it's an amber bulb in a white lens. Just for your info!

For the new body style ... I believe the back up lights ARE in the tail lights. ??

Backup lights are at the bottom of the fascia - not in the tail lights. The clear round area of the tail lights is the blinker with an amber bulb with a silver coating.
