Default To Hide the Garage Door Opener?

When we purchase our New Beetle, I wanted package#2 that included the Homelink on the visor. They couldn't find that for us, so I settled for package#1, but I miss the remote on the visor.

Do you hide your remote control? If you do, where? If not, why do you do that? People say to hide the garade door openers. Mine is in the arm rest, but is difficult to get to.

How about you?

Mine hangs on the inside of the net in the door. It's black, the door is black no one sees it. I always lock my car and the darn thing doesn't work half the time anyway

There are two places I've seen it hidden. One, as I did was to clip it over the brake pedal bracket under the drivers under dash panel. A push button was installed under the left plastic part (one just like the right bud vase holder but left of the steering wheel) and wired to the openers contacts. The second location that I like better is under the center dash panel. That easier to access to replace the battery. Check for previous posts a year of two back for pictures and methods.

There's a little compartment right underneath the temp/time that your opener should fit in......that's where I keep mine.

I'm glad to see that everyone is hiding their remote's too! You would be shocked to learn how many criminals get into houses by breaking into the car and stealing the garage remote so that they can break into your house later.

Thanks for the lead-in!

Mine is connected to the trigger of my shift knob.

I've got the Homelink transmitter... I even bought a new garage door opener about 9 months BEFORE I got my TDI, making sure I got one that was compatible with Homelink. I was able to program the visor transmitter to work, but then I was the only one who could get in- neither of the other clickers we had would work anymore, and neither would the wall-mount opener that's outside the garage. Lots of complaining ensued so I just programmed the clickers to work again and now my visor doesn't. I don't know how to get all 4 transmitters to work at the same time.

My clicker is now clipped to my visor. We're in a low-crime area-- I don't even have a key to my back door. It's never locked. A bad guy wouldn't have to steal my garage door clicker... he'd just have to kick the dog off the doormat and walk right on in the house

I dont have any extra compartments other than my glove box I can't do the armrest...I have a CD changer in it I wish I had the homelink, but there's so much more that makes up for it with my little Bug My husband's A4 has the homelink though :jealous: but his also has a cajillion other features I'd love too....someday maybe heehee.

At first I kept it in the glovebox, then my husband pointed out the sunglass holder compartment and I was like "duh" and its worked out much better.

I think you could just replace the visor w/the updated part #. I'm fairly sure the homelink system is fully contained w/in it.

I finally came up with a solution. I call it "GhettoLink" (because it's not as cool as the OEM option). I went through a box of stuff I had cleared out of my truck when I sold it and found my old CD case that goes on the visor. It has a zip compartment on it so I put my remote in there....now no more reaching over into the glove box and cursing when the remote slides all the way over to the other side! All I have to do is feel for the button (it's the big one of 3) and off I go!

My husband's Audi A4 has the homelink feature. In addition to the visor with the buttons there is also some kind of sensor (or something) in the front bumper. The instructions contain something where you have to aim your garage door opener at a certain point on the bumper. Can we assume the NB's with homelink have that too?
