Default Why a Bud Vase?

I just love my bud vase and have a plush daisy in it. How did this come about? Did the Beetle have one? Is this a New Beetle accessory?

Thanks!
Tina

I googled and found a quote that said that the Bud Vase wasn't a standard item on the Old Beetles, but it was an accessory that many people liked...when designing the New Beetle the designers thought it was worthy of making a standard item incorporated into the design.

Tru dat. Along with the rattan underdash tray and chrome eyelids, the dash bud vase was pretty popular in the 50's and 60's. They were available from VW and other sources, some being quite ornate, with glass, crystal and porcelain vases in the holders.

Also, one of the other reasons the NB has it is that after putting it in Concept 1 and receiving a plethora of positive feedback on it, VW added it to the final design.

Yep it's already answered. Many different companies made vases for cars way back when. They weren't predominately a VW accessory, but could be used in a variety of cars. They were typically seen on German/European cars. But the whole idea of a flower/bud vase in a car dates back to around the late 20s early 30s. They could be seen in the backs of limos. I usually see them attached to an inside roof pillar.

Part of the reason, in addition to those already stated here, is that the European's (especially Germans) saw the auto as an extension of their home, hence the flower vase, pillows, blankets, and other home type accessories that were commonly seen in the early to mid-century photographs of autos.
