OMG you guys are all crazy!! Let me first say this thread is in no way intented to bash VW. I've owned several throughout my life and I won't lie, I have talked about buying a Honda or Toyota but I remember after getting rid of my Y2K new beetle that was just as troublesome, my tummy turned every time I saw a new beetle because I missed it so much.

Justin, Thank you SO SO SO SO SO much for your help, advice and support. I have had the same issue dealt with three times, but this issue is new, granted it's major. I can absolutely put up with the minor quirks of VW, but I cannot deal with constant and repeating engine, electric, and cooling faliures which is why I'm hoping the dealer is willing to work with me. I am loyal to VW and I probably will be for a long time (definitley will be if they work this out for me). My roommate also has an '06 and hasn't had an issue and my partner has an '06 Jetta that hasn't had anything major go wrong.

Here's what's new though:

On Friday my curiosity got the best of me (it had been 8 days since I heard anything) so I called the service manager and this is what she said her 'Rep' told her..."Even though his car is having constant and repeating faliures, I cannot see replacing it at this time. We cannot duplicate the problems therefore we cannot replace the car." I got pretty upset because I swear to God I'm not making this up and I don't have the time to play dumb games PLUS I love my New Beetle, I would NOT just make this up. The manager SWEARS she believes me but the rep doesn't care. I told her that this answer, to me, was unacceptable and that I need a reliable car and that I am sure I just have 'one of those cars.' She said she's going to contact VW, not her 'Rep' and see what she can do.

My next question(s) are as follows: I'm on a lease, so shouldn't this be easier than it is? I mean, they're getting the car back no matter what, so why no help me out now? Second, If I file a complaint, the service manager said the best thing to do is to file with the BBB...what are your opinions? Third...When will I ever drive a beetle again?! I'm going nuts not having my own car

Again, you are all awesome and amazing and I truly do value all of your advice...thanks for reading my lame, long posts.

David, I lease as well, and sometimes this makes things more difficult because dealerships don't want to take the car back before they have to, hence all the fees involved with breaking a lease.

I am going through a problem as well with my lease because 3 years ago when I leased the car, I worked 3 miles from home. Last year, I worked 3 miles from home. This year, I work 60 miles from home and I am way over my miles now. The problem is, because it's a lease, I do not have many options. To get out of the lease early means paying the remaining money I owe and the fee.

This might be the reason they're being so difficult with you.

I say if you are on a lease tell them to take the car now as you do not want to LEASE a POS from them any longer, and then go get one somewhere else. You defenently have a LEMON and if it were me I would not tolerate it. Three times with the same problem should qualify for a lemon. That dealer should be working harder for you to get this resolved. But then again it's Dick Hannah and they suck at customer service if you ask me.

It would be worth paying the fee if you have a reliable car.

It's not just the fee thats the problem...its paying the remaining payments. For example, if I turned my car in a year early, I would still have to pay the $3600 that remains on my lease in addition to the fee.

There is a lease termination fee that applies regardless of why the lease is terminated. As long as you can trade the car in to pay off the current value of the lease plue the early termination fee, you are free to do so. I know several folks who do just this, as the $450 (usual here) termination fee they have had to pay was cheaper than the mileage average they would have had to pay at the end of the lease. Lastly,, leasing companies are open to renogiating the mileage allowance on your lease during the lease term, so you can call them to re-nogiate the mileage limit.

Well, the first part is what I said...paying off the lease and the fee.

The second part about renegotiating the mileage I was unaware of so thanks for the info. This could help me, possibly, out of my very tight spot. I figured out that by the end of June, I will have 1600 miles left for the year remaining. Needless to say, I've been a little stressed about this

It's a real shame that people have a reason to doubt. Or at least a shame that they have an excuse that people can understand.

It sounds like your service manager really is trying to help. At least I hope it's not an act! It is a real sign of your dedication that you're putting up with so much, but that's understandable with a New Beetle! I hope it works out soon.
