Default Is the New Beetle a "girl car"?

Okay, I'm in the market for my first car. When I was in middle school, I went to the mall and they had a New Beetle on display. I checked it out and I thought it was a really cool car.

Fast forward to today. I'm checking AutoTrader and I found several New Beetles within my price range. Suddenly, I'm thinking about getting a New Beetle. However, I asked alot of my friends about it, and the majority of them say it's a "girl car"

Is this true? Maybe it would be better if I pick a more masculine color for the car, like dark blue, red, or black.

Thoughts?

Yeah, that's what alot of people think. It's really as masculine as you make it. Check out the photo threads for a few examples of "chick" cars on testosterone

Yes it's a girls car. Stay away... unless your ego can handle lots of attention from girls that is.

Here is my girly bug.

Get a turbo model or even a turbo s. It won't feel as girly and it will be a heck of a lot of fun to drive. It is a silly car, but that is why I love mine.

I've heard the same thing from my friends but you can make the turbo Beetles pretty damn fast and they'll blow the doors in on alot of cars more upscale then them. I dont know too many "girl cars" that can do that. Plus, you have the satisfaction afterwards of rubbing it in there faces and telling them they just got beat by a "girls car" hahaha.

True to a degree. The beetle is dude-friendly even with a TDI or a 2.0 engine. Both these engines can be hopped up to leave many a VTEC looking like... It's not just the performance that makes the beetle dude friendly, but it's style as well. The styling of the beetle melds with both the sexes. It has a fun cute aspect to it, and just has a cool look to it which us dudes can appreciate. We can slap a set of wheels and a few other doo dads on it and the car is brought to a whole other level of coolness. Still it appeals to women just as it does with us dudes.

But when it comes down to it, bullocks on those who can't appreciate the individuality of others. Women drive trucks- does that make them chick vehicles?? The vehicle is whatever the person's gender is. Many a Civic tuner dude used to call the same Civic a chick car. As soon as many started liking them, in spite of the criticism, the Civic became acceptable in the dude world. The same goes with the Subaru. Lemmings.

You just have to be happy with you, the skin you're in and what makes you happy. You can't please everybody. Too bad for the haters who are insecure with themselves and with others who don't have to rely on safety in numbers.

By far and away, this is now the front runner for org quote of the year; at least in my book

And yes, this thread has surpassed the "jet beetle" in resurfacing.

"girl car"? Well actually more like a chick magnet, cause girls will flock. Like some here have already said, if you can afford it get a turbo s or a turbo, which will most likely spank some of your friends' cars

Not a girl car, a fun car. You can make the New Beetle into anything you want. Look at lots of the posts. All of the cars look different. Our personalities and genders come right though.

This car makes us all smile. Lots of people really change the cars in many ways and enjoy it very much. I love mine the way she is, just a personalized plate and pretty flowers for the vase.

Get the car you want.

Nice to have you here, good luck with your new car.

My "girl car" has done 120MPH and has the power to go faster...and it's STOCK.

It wasn't built for drag racing, but it can keep up with the big boys.

Al (Scarab Y2k) has put it about as well as it could be put. 'Sides, I notice that there are a lot of guys on this site. They aren't self-conscious about liking a witty little car.

This one is girly:

Many are not. Drive what you want and care less about what other people think. I get some odd looks once in awhile...a lot of people like it too.

Mine is a TDI, the "manliest" of all New Beetles. It is also lifted and will eventually be modded to about 180 hp and 350 ft-lbs (at the wheels) once I get rid of the automatic for a MANual transmission. Because it is a diesel, I usually get a chance to talk with truckers and diesel pickup owners. Everyone wants to know about it and everyone likes it...especially with the fuel mileage that it gets.

I'm a big guy too (would fit right in on the defensive line of most any pro football team) and the amount of interior room these cars have (at least up front) is insane. There is no other car out there that can fit a guy like me (I am more comfortable in it than I am in my fullsize ext. cab pickup), and be able to get that kind of mileage and put out that kind of power. All while being very fun to drive.

So much for being a chick car huh?

I've never really thought of a NB as a "girly" car or a "chicks car." I've always just bought what I liked and never really gave a crap what anyone else thought. If I am making the payment, my opinion matters most!!

I look at the New Beetle as a smart choice. It gets great gas mileage, retains it's value well, and qualifies as an ultra-low emissions vehicle(ULEV), which is great for the environment.

The other day I saw a huge burley guy get out of a beautiful yellow NB. He works as a repairman at a Maytag repair shop close to my house. I honestly thought he was cool getting out of that beauty and he looked extremely proud to be driving it. I never thought less of him for driving a Bug, I actually thought it was awesome.

Do what makes YOU happy. That NB will be with you a lot longer than those jokers giving you crap about driving one!!

well, well, well

I am sorry to say i thought they were chick cars too in the beging...

I think I even did a topic on it, sorry but i an new here so i can make that mistake. But, now i stick up for the bug. In fact just replied to 1st insult post.

Lets see the NB its small, cute and the freaking flowers oh my god. Let me tell ya, thats a pen holder in my man sled. Really who the heck makes a flower vase in a car? Did they made them for chicks? is it eco friendly? NO, it was made for chicks.

But now us men pimp out the beetle creating this aftermarket heaven, and now they are bi sexual cars lol

I own two of them, Love them, and my large butt can fit in them. They are fun to drive, they get great gas mileage. I can pimp this thing out with soooo many aftermarket parts.

In my professional opion, They are NOT chick cars even though they seem to lean twards it with the whole flower - daisy connection. Could be taken as a hippie car as well?

If you need to know, just drive one, love one, buy one.. or two or three or four..

Marc
