Default Well, that didn't take long. Bye bye NB.

I had the NB for exactly a week. Long enough to clean it up and drive it around the driveway a few times and then something broke on my wife's Passat. She drove the NB one day while we were waiting on the Passat to get in the shop, and now she's in love with it.

This is actually a good thing. She puts 10% of the miles on cars that I do and I have a habit of hitting deer and other stuff on the backroads I travel when commuting. I've been trying to find something to get her out of the Passat for a few years now for various reasons and I never thought about a NB. Guess I should have.

Now I get to find something else for myself. It can't be another NB, it needs to be family sized. Probably a Volvo 850 wagon.

So there you have it. Easy come, easy go.

Exactly. I see it in the garage when I leave for work and when I come home. I just don't get to drive it every day to work like I planned.

How big a family are we talking about?
Mine: wife, 14yo, 13yo, 11yo and a small dog. We have no problem fitting in my Scion xB. Good for short trips. Also took the xB to Virginia Beach (6-7 hours driving)this past June with one kid and a week's worth of stuff, including lawn and beach chairs. Brought back an adult friend and his huge suitcase.

I love my xB.. good on gas (about 25 around town, 30 on the highway). In May 2008 I spent almost 75 hours over 5 days riding in or driving an xB from home to Las Vegas and back. I was quite comfortable. And so far it's been a heck of a lot more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the TDI Beetle I had.

I'm way to poor to think of that one, plus I'm not much on big minivans. The guy who sold me the NB bought an older MPV and that's not too hateful.

I'm really looking at something used, I'm partial to Volvos and VW's since I can work on them and I have good local independents to do what I can't or don't want to do. I found a one owner Volvo 850 wagon at a local Subaru dealership, I should be picking it up saturday, the Passat will show up in the classifieds shortly.

If you have to commute and your wife doesn't (you didn't specify), she should let you have the Beetle during the week at least. Then you can switch cars as necessary on the weekend. (But I don't blame her for not wanting to surrender the Beetle.)
