when it comes time for Skittle's annual inspection (Februaury) I get so nervous. I don't know why. I take good care of her so I shouldn't. She always passes with flying colors and I beam with pride like any mother would when her child does well on a test

I suppose I still have NBAD

Skittle will be just fine I know it.

Last January it was Bugje's time for it's annual roadworthy test and check-up. He has gotten new brakes and all that belongs with it. A big ouch for my bank account I'll tell ya . On Friday the hand-brake light kept on flashing and beeping.
Tomorrow I will bring Bugje by the dealer as it's a no-no for having this problem so soon after having been turned inside and out.

Don't worry Amy, I get nervous too. I know everything is fine with my car but I'm always worried they'll pick on something.

This time (I had it done in January), I was worried they were going to tell me my brake pads were too low or my tire tread was too worn. Both of which are fine (though do need to replace both soon-ish) but I can't help but worry. NC is pretty lax too. MD is a bunch of nazis when it comes to inspections though. Maybe thats why I stay on my toes...so used to MD inspections!

In MD, we only had emission inspections every 2 years. Safety inspection was only done when you firt got a car. Here in NC, you have both safety and emissions inspections and they are every year.

We also don't have smogging. MD doesn't either. If its '96 and older, the car doens't get emissions tested. In NC, no diesels get emissions tested regardless of year. They do the emissions testing based off of the OBDII readings.

Safety inspection and emissions testing. They check your tires, brakes, rotors, lights, horn...anything safety related. And then they hook it up to a computer to check the emissions control system.

I've learned that VWs are like children and they react to things after surgery just like kids do! After my timing belt got changed, Titan's door microswitch started acting up and the alarm started going off at random. But this only lasted 1 day and only happened once, and that was Sunday around 4:30. It was weird locking him up and not hearing the beep.

Either, that was him being upset with me for leaving him at the doctor for a day, or, that was him calling me outside for attention because he sat all friday, drove a distance on saturday and sat and drove 1ce sunday and sat.

Either way, these cars are like children. They need attention, regular checkups, baths, and love in order to function properly. If you forget any of those, thats when the problems really add up and fustrate you!

Yes, it's the right light in the dashboard.

And see? You had nothing to worry about

Just got Psyduck's alignment done (along with a recall repair on my ignition coils) and the service rep told me that I must be really in-tune with my car since the alignment was off by 1 degree from what is acceptable

My bf and I tend to do a lot of the check-up stuff on our cars. But since I still have a warrenty (and a life-time loaner car program with the dealership I bought Psyduck from) I'll let the dealership fix the stuff until the warrenty is done...

It's different for each county here in Colorado for emissions. In my county only the diesels get tested and only 5 years after the model year, then every 2 years after that. Daisy is probably cleaner than many gassers and she's the one getting tested. So I paid $75 just to confirm what I already knew.

I think it's $45. But if for some reason your car doesnt pass inspection and needs a costly repair it needs to be done right then and there or else the car wont pass and once it expires the next month you run the risk of getting a ticket.
One time I took my previous car to a Firestone garage to be inspected. Big mistake. They told me I needed all these things that I didnt really need and I was young and trustworthy and ended up having to shell out almost $700 for them to pass my car. I later told my dad what happened and he freaked. He used to own his own garage so I always had all my repairs done for free so what did I know? I trusted my dad so stupidly I thought all mechanics were trustworthy. I learned a sort of expensive but valuable lesson that day

I know the total inspection for emissions and safety here in NC is $30. I think its only $10 or so for safety. But this is all part of the annual required inspection.

So many places so inspections here in NC its rediculous. We usually go to Jiffy Lube and its quick and painless. I have to give them credit though...they've always popped the hood on every car we've taken in for inspection every year. Bill took the '84 TD in on Monday and said they popped the hood on that even! (though they didn't quite understand the fact that it was a diesel and they had to let the glows warm up before starting it...). With all the places though, its also easy to find pretty lax ones...

We go to STS now and they seem pretty fair. And they also pop the hood every time.

reading this thread makes me happy that wisconsin doesnt have emissions testing or safety inspections on vehicle on any sort of basis, the only time a vehicle gets inspected is when it is a kit car or a home built car or a salvage title, that is the only time they do that.

Hmmm I've never done that type of inspection, I just did my emissions test yesterday which was $50 and she passed with flying colors she got a perfect score , I don't know if we have laws here for safety, only emissions Wow that's crazy!!!! Some mechanics are just so mean about that stuff, I usually have my grandpa or family friend look at Fiona since they both know cars I've made a few expensive mistakes myself and have learned a lesson not to take my car somewhere by myself because they will try to rip me off since I'm a chick although a lot of times I get stuff for free or discounted but there's always that once in a while case
