hi!

First let me put some things into perspective:

Control arms for a Mk4 VW are cheap. I don't know the cost off hand but it won't be but a few hundred bucks, I know because mine are scraped from running over a curb and I inquired about this with my shop. I was told unnecessary but given a less than $500 quote to replace both with labor.

Frame damage is the real concern. Airbags are cheap to replace, but you will need a host of parts: tensioner for the seat belt, a new airbag control unit, two bags... and the dash cover, passenger side.

I agree that $6k for a 10 year old isn't bad. BUT my insurance rates my 230k mile 12 year old as being worth $5500. I'd play hardball, if I were you. I'd find as close to an exact replica of your vehicle and show the different in prices to replace it and make them pay out.

But that's me.

I hope you find a resolution that works for you.

Personally, I think the AUdi TT looks like a Beetle that's been stepped on.

It's sad to see your Beetle all smashed up like that. It's the same colour as mine, which is scarred and battered from life on the French roads, a venerable representative of his race since he's a 1999 model. Our first Beetle, which was red, got totalled on a motorway when the guy overtaking us fell asleep. We ended up with the front end crushed, front axle broken, and back end smashed in (we spun and hit the crash barrier twice, once each end). But we walked away unharmed. They're good cars, and I hope you find another to accompany you on the next few years' worth of roads.

Once again, I want to thank you all for your kindness after the loss of my Bug. It meant a lot to me, it truly did.

I now have a beautiful black Beetle, and you can all see her here:

Did you check the ORG classifieds? 6k is more than enough to buy one out right.

Geez ... I did not know the .org had a classified section. In the meantime, I got a new Bug :~)

You can see her here:

Although, 6k wasn't enough for a new (used) Bug most places here in NY. I got lucky and found Beauty for $5500 + tax & registration, but every other Bug in NY was selling for $8k or above. And forget about staying in the family but getting a Passat or an Audi.
