Default Are we/ is he insane?

I recently got a new Red Rock beetle which I love and traded in my SUV for it. I was driving a 99 beetle during good weather months and gave it to my daughter. We have a 67 bug for car shows and events.

My husband is thinking of trading in his Toyota Tacoma truck for a 2006 reflex silver vert.

We'd then have

1967 Type one (not called beetles by vw til the next year)
1999 2.0
2010 2.5

2006 2.5

and no other sort of vehicles other than a trike and another motorcycle.

Oh No! Your place will be infested with bugs!

Unless you need to haul a lot of stuff and or people, this sounds perfect to me. You have your own little gtg everyday!

I keep my old SUV around because I am still working on my house, and sheets of drywall don't fit in the Beetle...

Is home repair ever done?

We have our house and two rental properties. We've used the truck A LOT.

My thought was buy the beetle and perhaps pick up a clunker truck for 500.00 or something and hide it.

Did I add that we live in Iowa. His truck though, to be fair is a rwd 4x2. He thinks even a beetle, or especially a beetle would be better than his truck in bad winter weather, but then again it's a convertible.

I think you can take the hippie out of the 70's but you can't take the 70's out of the hippie.

Do you suppose there is a prize for having the most vw's?

They wanted to see the 1967 at the dealership so I think we're going to head up and check it out.

For practical purposes, there is a TDI also an 2006 in Harvest Moon Beige for about the same price but with 69k on it instead of 26k . But since it's a diesel and the engines seem to go forever ....

However, the reflex silver IS a vert. (so I guess I learn to drive a manual, right?)

The important question is, how often do you USE the truck for hauling things?

You have a lot of Beetles already.. it might be kind of a wise idea to keep ONE utilitarian vehicle (since you already on it).

I'm wishing I had never given up my Ford Ranger extended cab. I didn't realize how often I actually used it for tossing stuff in the back.

I would almost recommend keeping the pickup. If you want the Beetle as well, then maybe keep the truck AND get the Beetle.

But at some point you'll probably realize "Oh , I can't haul (insert object here) in the Beetle.. I wish I had my truck."

As much as I love my NB, I will admit that it is nice to have a more utilitarian vehicle around too.

My fiance has a Honda Accord right now. We also have a Mk1 Jetta but its a project. He wants to get another car and has contemplated a Miata, but we gotta have a car that can haul.

The problem is we don't actually "own" the truck yet (again) It was paid off for about a week or less when he refinanced to pay for my 1967 as a surprise anniversary present. We can't really pay for another car payment so the truck payment (and hence the truck) would have to go.

He's not digging the manual top though and is wondering how to get bags of rock salt home in a vert. (we have to have a water softener as we live in a very very very hard water sort of a place)

To top it off when we went to look at it again, he noted the rim is scraped up and there is a big ding in the door. But then again, it only has 27k on it.

Yes, you have an illness. It's called NBAD. New Beetle Affective Disorder. Symptoms include a strong desire to consume everything New-Beetle related, and a penchant for showing up in Roswell every other summer.

At one time in my household we had THREE New Beetles. Dad traded his in to get a Toureag as we needed something big enough for the whole family. But since I got my car in 1998, we've owned nothing but VWs.

I also have this disorder. So don't worry your not alone Luv3Bug...
But I also have the same problem with corvettes and porsches so I'm not sure being in the same club with me is a wise thing.

One rule I strongly self enforce: No financing !! Must have the cash to blow in hand if I'm making another car purchase.

Sadly I favor keeping the truck, and then when its paid off, save-up and go by 8 more bugs so you have every color possible.

Yeah, but I get chauffered around in it. It's only a show car and not a daily driver.

So, we went to look at a different vert 2006 31500 miles for 10k. The only problem is its got a prior salvage title. Which is why it's 6k under the dealers price. Aquarius blue with grey roof and grey interior and a manual vert roof but it's automatic.
