Have you guys experienced some people being jealous with your Beetle??

Hey, Guys: I just was wondering if any of you guys have run into either family or friends making jealous comments about your Beetle? My brother-in-law called me yesterday and heard that we bought the '06 NBC. The first thing he said was I heard you bought a Punchy Buggy!! Then he says you don't drive it, do you? It's a chick's car!! I said Yes I do drive it and love it!! I said you and half the country have this insane perception about Beetles and they are totally wrong!! Anyway, he never has anything nice to say about anyone else so I'm not surprised at all. If anyone else has had a similar experience I'd love to hear it. Thanks!!

I haven't hear that spoken to me per se, but have heard countless stories like yours. You ought to ask your brother if His wife drives His car. If his answer is "yes", you should respond, "I guess being a Chick drives your vehicle, you must drive a 'chick car' too". Brudin Law needs to get out of 3rd grade and lose that narrow-minded mentallity, and pour a nice hot cup of "stop being insecure". Sorry for the rant. Willingly ignorant folk just rub me the wrong way sometimes.

Yeah. I kind of get 'envy' from people sometimes. However, most of the time, I think it is people being ignorant. Seriously though, what makes it a 'chick' car? Is it the vase? If the vase wasn't there would they still consider it a chick car? Perhaps it is the curve (instead of sharp angles)??? Meh.

I've gotten that before. My dad borrowed my NB one day since I needed to use his Explorer to haul a painting of mine from school that was wayyy too big for my NB, and when I went to pick up my NB from my dad's work, After asking my dad if he enjoyed the drive in my NB and him saying he loved it, his coworker said that my NB looked nice, but it's "totally a chick's car!" I mentioned how I know of several guys (primarily here on the Org ) who own and LOVE driving their NB's.
Silly people!


My bf drives my NB all the time and he doesn't care if he gets looks. I tease him sometimes about it, but he would love to own a NB of his own as well.

Thanks for the responses!! I thought I was losing my mind!! I bought the car for my wife but I'm driving it as much as her, if not more!! I really don't care what anyone says either. It's just a sterotype anyway. Have fun!!

I love my New beetle, it is so fun to drive, and when I have had a bad day it makes me feel better!!!!!!

My Dad calls my New Beetle names, but I don't care!!!

an ex-friend sayed my old beetle looked like someone had pee on her which i total don't get. Sallie(my old beetle) is Harvest moon and dosnt look like pee no one sayed anything about Laycee or i just haven't hear it

I have heard countless negative remarks about my NB but I also get lots of nice ones, too so I just ignore the bad ones and enjoy the good ones
