Default Just bought a new beetle....

Hi All,
After much research I finally bought my wife a 1999 beetle GLS. Its blue, 90K miles, grey cloth interior with sunroof and five speed. Timing belt and water pump was done, rear bushings in the suspension replaced and 4 new tires put on 10K miles ago. Its a one owner car and all service records. I paid $4700 for it. How did I do? I thought it was a fair deal on a great little car that was well cared for. I just hope it has 3-4 years left in it. She only drives 10K miles/year so I think we'll be good. Pick it up on Monday! Here are some pictures.

Just thought I'd share. We're pretty excited
Joe

I tried looking for a Turbo S but the cost was too much, almost double the price and not as well cared for. At least what I was looking at. We're on a budget right now and this car fit the bill perfectly. Its mainly for my wife so I hope the 2.0 is peppy enough. Primarily city driving so I'm sure it will be fine.

Nice bug you got there! I love blue bugs. They are my favorite color of the bug.

Very nice ride. Looks to be in great shape. With having the timing belt & water pump already changed out and as long as you keep up on maintenance she should last you a good long while.

Very nice car!! I'm going to recommend you start looking to change the transmission fluid. Yes, even the manuals have transmission fluid. This fluid is recommended to be changed before 100k miles. Other than that, nothing i can think of. That bug looks to be in great shape!

Wife just pocked up the car and its great! Except the shift linkage just broke and she is 300 miles from home. Hopefully its a stocked part and she can get on the road tomorrow. Is it a big job?

If you are referring to the shift carrier assembly, its simple; here is the DIY thread.

Just saw the car myself and aside from a few wear items like the silver on the steering wheels and slight peeling of the rubber on the interior driver door handle its in fabulous shape. Well worth the money. Linkage was $130 to fix at the dealer so no biggie and the original owner split the cost with my wife. What a fun car! Really happy with the purchase at a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Is it possible to add a center armerst though? This one doesn't have one.
