Alright guys. I'm new here. In reading everyone else's posts it looks like most of you name your Beetle. Is that a requirement to "fit in"?? LOL Seriously, how the heck do you pick out a name for your car, I had trouble picking out names for my kids!!!!

If your car has a name it will tell you

And its not just NBs, I think its a VW thing. My NB is darla, My husband's old Passat was Helga, and our Mk1 Jetta TD is Klaus. We both named them. Its just fun honestly. VWs just have a personality that lend themselves to being named.

It's the law, ha! No, you don't have to, but Beetle's seem like little people so most people do name them. We also get the birth cert. sent to us in the mail. This car is just different.

Being a nB owner or a lover of them is all that's needed to "fit in", nothing else.

And naming cars is something BOTH men and women have been doing long before you and I have been around. This dude, along with many other dudes here have named their beetles. And yes, if your beetle is to be named, it will tell you- I know that sounds, but some kind of way the name will come as if your beetle tells you- unexplained pheonomena.

My 1994 Miata was named by a couple of friends and up til that point I'd never even thought about naming a car.

I then bought my Beetle and joined the org. I snickered behind the scene as everyone named theirs. Then after about 19 months (while at the grocery) the name literally jumped out at me it's Pomelo. The fruit rolled out of the bin and I was all like zomg it's like my car and after I got done acting like some moronic 11 year old girl *I'm a 42 year old man* I laughed it off but the name stuck and then Oscar came along... sigh. Just go ahead and call me an 11 year old girl but I like that both my cars have personalities strong enough that it forced me to humanize them with names.

Don't rush it. As said, if it has a name it will tell you. It took us over a year before the name came to Lily. Gandalf was a different story. When I first saw him in the classifieds I knew I was going to be bringing him home eventually. He was named before we actually met. Don't sweat the name deal. Just love the car.

Mine was kinda easy to come up with? LOL And like others have said... it's not always a nB thing. My husbands jetta is Thumper... the name came from the tires "thumping" cause of traction control when you stand on it.

You definately don't have to name you Bug to fit in here, EVERYBODY fits in at this comfortable place. We think its fun to do, as well as VW will send you a free "Birth Certificate" for your baby. I have had 3 new beetles and I beetle since i have been here. Felix, Opie, Doodle, and Ernie. But, like I said, you don't have to plus, WELCOME!

Sometimes they will get named by someone else and it just sticks. My wife started calling mine Beetlejuice after a long road trip.We got out after driving all day and the front of the car was covered with dead bugs.So it has been Beetlejuice ever since then.

And it's not just "girls" as someone said *lol*.

We men like to give our cars personalities too! You have to be a bit unique to want to drive a Beetle anyway, but naming it gives it something special

My lifelong theory is that there's no point in naming anything that won't come when you call it. Lasted about 4 hours after I got my bug.

Picked the name Rita, short for Margarita, because my drink of choice is a Top Shelf Margarita, and Rita's Salsa Red. Salsa + Margaritas FTW, hence Rita.

It's so true about the NBs "telling" you their names!! Sally "told" me her name the very first time we test drove her. LOL

This is a true statement.

Don't sweat it. Your NB will tell you his/her name only when he/she is good and ready.

My Beetle still hasn't spoken to me yet. I guess I won't push it and wait till a name does mysteriously pop into my head!

I do have to say, I'm glad to see a lot of guys on here too. My husband WILL NOT drive my NB. He says men don't drive Beetles. Which actually is fine by me because now I don't have to share! I have an older Jeep Wrangler and he used to want to drive it all the time till I put a license plate frame on it that says "Silly boys, jeeps are for girls" and a front plate that says Jeep Chick. He doesn't have to share his Harley cuz I don't know how to drive it so I'm not sharing my toys either! I guess I still don't play well with others! LOL!!
