Default My Bug is 12 and a half

So, I posted when my beloved 98 BLU F O turned 10. Now my car is pushing 13 (hard to believe) and he's still doing good with the exception of a rebuilt tranny in January ($2,900 - Ouch!) and yesterday I had to drop $700 on a ac/heat blower module. The plug on the knob which turns the climate system on and off busted on full blast (very unpleasant). Of course VW couldn't have made it an independent part - nooooooooo! They had to make it part of the $350 module. And, of course the labor was $325. Geez! Other than the fact that I'm now completely car poor I still can't imagine driving anything else, not that I could afford a car payment anyway. Oh yeah, he still eats half a quart of oil every 2,000 miles too after trying every form of oil on the planet. Oh! It's a UFO! He doesn't need crude oil, he needs warp core plasma! How could I be so stupid?!

Happy anniversary!! And here's to many more!! We just fixed my ac motor speed today again.. We bought an ac blower motor off ebay for like $30ish dollars and it doesn't look hard to fix it but we didn't need that part just needed to fix the ac speed controller (off,1,2,3 or 4).. But we are going to hang on to it so if we ever need it we will have it.. It should not have been that expensive though.. Wow..

Hey thanks! A fellow 98 blue In my younger days I was not shy about doing stuff like that myself, but not anymore. So I just repeat the mantra: "It's cheaper than a new car...Its cheaper than a new car...It's cheaper than a new car..." If it's any consolation, this sort of thing is happening to many newer model cars. There's just too much computerized gizmos to go go funky.

Yepperz.. I can't afford a car payment because the truck payment and house payment suck me dry so I will fix her as it goes.. She needs new rotors and breaks right now but I can down shift till the end of the month till I can afford to fix her..lol

On that subject, I just replaced the rotors and brakes a few months ago (fronts only). I put Akebono ceramic pads on with Powerstop slotted rotors. The pads are fantastic! A little bit spendy, but my wheels are 99% brake dust free now I'm so glad I went that route and will never use anything else now.

I have some nice ones that I am watching on ebay.. I used the same brand for my eclipse and when I stopped quickly it could send you through the windshield.. They were awesome brakes.. So I am excited about the new rotors and brakes for her.. She definitely needs them.. Big time.. So I love the picture of your bug with looks to be kiacs on top?

Actually they're big bannanas Just kidding. Yes, they are kayaks. I've had the car really bogged down with camping equipment plus the yaks in years past. Not sure I want to keep doing that though. But, the car has always handled it very well.

The longest trip I ever took in the BLU F O was to Roswell, New Mexico in 2001. It was a total blast! My sister went with me and we had a really great time.

Happy anniversary! My baby is now over 11 years old. Holding up pretty well all things considered. Doesn't drink oil hardly at all (guess I was one of the lucky ones to get that in an AEG). Biggest issue right now is her headliner is falling down pretty bad Probably get it replaced late this summer or early in the fall.

It's good to know there are other "middle aged" New Bees out there. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one out there. I know the cars don't have the best reputation for longevity.

... "middle aged"... ... In the end, the longevity of any vehicle is directly related to how you treat it.
