Question Wtf?

It may be hard to believe, but regardless of the fact that I'm a girl...I know a few things about cars, in particular VW's. I guarantee you that I am not riding the brakes and that I don't have "poor driving habits." This isn't my first car (or even my first VW) and no other car that I have ever owned has gone thru brakes the way that this one does. I'm not really complaining about it either as this is the only real money-sucker on my Beetle.
This forum is so chock full of holier than thou preachifiers that it makes some feel unwelcome. Offer constructive ideas, not hard and fast "Do what I say or your car will blow up" rules. Every car is different, as is every driver/owner.
Just sayin'!
Easy Darlin'! The was no malice or sexism intended. And in fact the first phrase of my post was completely in jest. A little dry maybe, but in jest. Guess I needed to add a . Perhaps you should read more of my older posts, I used to cut-up quite regularly in my earlier days here on the Org, when I was at the beginning of my learning curve about the Org and the ppl around here.

Edit: As a matter of fact, a good example of my quick wit and humor is quoted in the next post from a long time ago, earlier in this thread. I had forgot all about THAT one! (lol)

With a passion for high performance expensive cars and race boats, my experience with Forums previously was at quite a different level. Not so much the moder, DIYer, and jerry rigger. I try not to offend anyone around here, but rather to offer up the knowledge and experience that comes with my years and with my millions of miles of vehicle ownership and maintenance and repair. I started out about 40 years ago as a professional marine mechanic. I'm only opinionated when what I believe is based on solid fact or real experience. With many things I try to offer not just the what, but the why.

Many of the people I have come to be friends with on here, and many whose comments and posts I regard highly, are female, so don't try playing the sex card with me. You know, the "I'm a girl, but don't treat me like one" thing... NO one who knows me, would ever refer to me as sexist or chauvinistic, although I must say, as I get older and older, I prefer my animals to women, more and more... Your reply to my post is a good example of why! Truthfully I never even noticed your User ID, hence your sex. This isn't your first NB, mine neither, three NBs, and three air-cooleds, and dozens of other vehicles.

You commented that you went through brakes quickly, I simply stated the numerous potential causes for this. All of the ones I am aware of, and riding the brakes, and poor driving habits, are two of them. You've ruled out two, so I'd be looking at the others.

And if I did say something that offended you, in either of my responses to your posts, it was unintentional, and I'm truly sorry.

Let's you and I be friends... or not. We're all here for the same reasons, to learn, to share, and to contribute.

I have a stuck valve. I've tried everything but a Valve Wrench, but I'm working on it.

I have to replace the window switches on both driver's side and passenger's side but I'm too lazy. The tabs on the driver's side broke so the button is a little loose and one of the springs has fallen out on the passenger's side so it gets stuck every now & then. It's annoying but nothing else.

i just got my valve body replaced and also got some touch up paint to fix some rock chips on the front.
Now I'm working on my "speck-ly" windshield. It almost looks like mist is on it when the sun shines directly through it. I have tried some special rub on cleaner that my dad and I got at an auto parts store and it didn't help. Any ideas?

The squeaky wipers may ultimately show up as rub marks on your windshield and the passenger side air bag icon is supposed to be on if no one is sitting in it, indicating it is not active, or so the driver knows it is not on if there is a child seat being used and it is occupied (see your Owner's Manual).

Replace it. It can be polished out, not a DIY, and expensive. Also the possiblility of creating distortion in the glass as it is a hand polishing process. However, the rule is, if you can feel a chip or scratch with your finger nail it's to deep to polish.

Well, It's not so much scratches as it is what looks like mist like if it were raining, but it's not. My dad said it has something to do with sap? Whatever it is, when the sun shines in, it looks like there are tiny misty rain drops all over my windshield. You can't feel it to the touch at all.

Elmos list...

Secondary air pump (just waiting for new mounts from Rock Auto)
Funny noise when steering, still needs investigation
wheel bearing - no noise or much movement as yet
Headlight polish - again...
Brake pads on front as sensor wires broken

And Cookie...

Crank speed sensor
discs & pads all round
lowering shocks & springs
silicone air intake pipe & itg filter
Cookie Monster sticker

Elmo is down to my husband to fix the important bits, Cookie is in the UK so my workshop guys will look after him

Elmos mounts should be here (I hope!) for the weekend so that'll be Pauls job as we'll have a 2nd car then too.

SEMA next week so may have some eye lids to go on too

Default What's that smell?

So, I was out getting in some quality drive time before the big storm hits tomorrow, and stopped for a soda, and sniff sniff..I could smell anti-freeze.. What the? So I start looking and I can see where it's been leaking from.. Called the shop that recently did my t-belt and coolant temp sensor and took the car up there to have it looked at. It ended up being a flange on the drivers side of the motor. One I guess that is known for wearing out. Long story short, it was cracked and could only get worse.

Got it fixed, still smelling anti-freeze after driving it home. Maybe they spilled some? Guess I'll see if the smell goes away in a day or two.

Here is what I have done over the past couple of months ...

Clutch Slave Cylinder Replacement
Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement
Transmission Clean Up and Maintenance Check

... and soon ...

Clutch/Flywheel Replacement

... and then I get to replace the drive axles on my on NB! And to add to my excitement, my CEL Light came on tonight!

Lets not even mention Cowboy still sitting, two and half years later; although I do have the parts to put it back together.
