I personally love to drive my TDI Beetle. It's such a peppy little fuel-efficient car. For my use, it's small enough to do everything I need it to do. These days, I only ever drive the Beetle, but every now and then (but not all that often), I'll still take my Audi out for a completely different feel.

That's something I love about my Turbo S. It's kind of a stealth sports car. Police officers pretty much ignore them. Most everyone underestimates them. Makes it real easy to slice into gaps in traffic or get away from aggressive drivers.

I see a handful of guys driving NB's. Most of them are less flashy of colors like white, black, or silver, but there is another Yellow NB who's owner works in the same shopping center as I do and it's owner is a guy. So, they're around...just gotta keep an eye open!

There's one gentlemen that drives one in my neighborhood, it's platinum gray of course. Can't be too flashy with the bright colors. It cracks me up when people are so adamant about it being a chick car, but the funny thing is that all the guys want to take it for a test drive.

I live in a small hollow in the UK, about 25 miles from London. Somewhere i venture into every weekend and a few times during the week in a month.
This is when i see most of the Bug drivers, on my way in or out

The drivers in my hollow that i see that own Bugs are all Ladies.
The drivers i see of Bugs into and out of London are all Ladies.
The one thing that i do sometimes think, is, do other road users think i'm Gay

Hey i know my sexuality, so have no problem asking the question.
But the Chick Magnet idea goes out the window if they do

I see a few now and again. They are viewed as chick cars because thats who was buying them when they first came out and were "cool". Now that their older I see that the fathers that bought them for their daughters are using them for daily drivers.

Or I see the geeksquad in them.

That is exactly what I do! I mostly see ladies driving NB's, but I do see men driving them too. Around here, I would say it is about a 65/35 ratio with the ladies dominating that number. Personally I think that VW has steered the design and colors towards lady driver's as the years have gone by. I think the earlier versions are squattier (probably not a real word) and designed more towards male drivers. I agree with Al and Scott in that the way a NB owner makes their car their own, usually will tell you which gender drives the car.

I've only ever saw one guy drive a beetle around here and he was about 110 years old. I was more upset he had the same color as me...I wanted to be the only one My husband drove mine to work right after I got it because he blew something in his car. He got made fun of so bad he put a sign in the front window that said "I'm not gay, it's my wife's car". Funny how they didn't make fun of him when lunch break came and everyone wanted a ride because he put the top down

I never got a reply like that, but if ever i did, i'd probably say, "last time i checked, i'm a dude- so much for this being a chick car"

Your remarks are on point my good man. This comment can go to both the ones jeering and the ones receiving it.

I'm amazed at how some will try and debase others to increase their self worth. Also you have many who will rib you because you don't drive what they do or you refuse to conform to their likes, stereotypical parameters and such- I guess that's why "subdivisions" by Rush is one of my favorite songs.

On the other hand, you've gotta be cool with the skin you're in and what makes you happy, be it a car or otherwise- even if you have to rock your wife's/GF's car for a minute. Sure the fellas will be the fellas, and will try to rib you, but when it's all said and done, we can't be boxed into what people think we should drive, or a myriad of other stereotypes.

If people can't appreciate you for you and what makes you you, then, they're just not worth occupying your emotions, thoughts, space or time. Life's too short.

I think my wife has driven my car maybe 5 times in almost 2 years. She keeps asking and I keep saying someday maybe.

The ribbing I get it where is the flower vase and want to paint flowers on the car?

Every time we go somewhere, whichever guy friend I'm with (most all of them are guys) will grab MY keys... I guess since it's A GIRL'S car it's a fair excuse for them to drive... haha

I get grief on a regular basis. I work in the city water department and there are mainly "rough neck", red neck,"country boy" kind of guys I work with....most are really good people, though a bit closed minded at times.

They give me a ration and I just keep telling them to open your eyes and think outside the box....a lot of them drive big azz trucks or some kind of older american hotrod (a few nice ones a that). I march to the beat of a different drummer and im kind of out of my element at my job but I proudly roll into and out of work in my bug and I love my bug....so far one of my fav cars Ive owned!

Its all in what ya make it, and Ive shown pics of bugs from this forum and a few guys have a better idea of what can be done....lust a little education is all it takes sometimes!
