Default Ahhhh!!!!!!! >:-(

So, yet again Fiona decided that she wanted to act up in 110+ degree temps, this time on the way home from Vegas

We got half way home and she started losing power and kicking back up (just like she did going to and from Roswell last year) then completely stalled 3 times before we called AAA. Both times this has happened it has been over 110 degrees outside but last time there was no CEL and the dealer and everyone else said it was the fuel filter so they fixed it. This time there is a CEL and she isn't shifting right, her rpms were 4,000-5,000 the whole way home after we got dropped off by the tow truck, I was going 60-70 mph, I could hear the engine, it was running hard it seemed.

I absolutely love my car but I swear she has got to stop doing this, I am hoping it is the Catalytic converter so that VW will fix it for free but when I called the local dealer and spoke to a service department guy and he thinks its more then that. I don't have money to fix her right now and I won't drive til she gets fixed.

GAH!!!! I am so mad

Luckily Vince (beetlethis) lives kind of close and will be bringing his vag-com over tomorrow to read the code

Any ideas as to what it could be??

My Tundra did something like that. But it had nothing to do with 110 degrees. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire resistor.
Ran bad, stalled out, no power. It was a simple fix for me and a few c-notes later it was good as new. Autozone will read your CEL for free.

Don't think that the cat would cause that. I drove with a bad cat for a few months and barely noticed it.

You won't really know what it might be until you get the codes read.

If it's spark plugs that would be easy to fix, I sure hope it's an easy fix. I wonder why it only acts up in the heat like that, I live by the beach so it doesn't get hot and my car never acts up like that when I am around home. Autozone doesn't do that here in CA anymore, it's okay though, Vince is comin over tomorrow with his code reader so I will know then and keep yall updated

Smileybug, thanks for that info, guess it isn't the cat

That's how I was when the 5spd swap was done. So many intermittent problems when I drove (plus not to mention the learning curve). Nothing worse than being afraid to drive your own car...for whatever reason...

Oy Michelle that sucks, at least you are used to it now

UPDATE:

The code was read, turns out it was the engine speed sensor, which he said could be causing my shifting problem...it's $115 to fix, he will get the part tonight and come over tomorrow to do it so she will be driveable by Sunday, we will be driving around a little tomorrow to make sure it fixed the problem.

Also, we will be flushing the tranny fluid within the next couple weeks just to make sure everything is good
