Question New Shape.. Old Shape Bugs

People who know me, know, i'm not a big fan of the newer shaped shaped Bugs.

Cut wings, edging towards standard cars make-up.. No real style anymore

anonymous poll, what do you think

I used to really dislike them when they first came out. They've grown on me a bit. I'm not particularly fond of them, but I don't hate them either. I'd never buy one though. I definitely like the rounder design much better.

I assume you mean the 06 on styling? If so... I love mine! To each his own.

I know a lot of a/cooled owners who really do, not dislike but " Hate ", the New Beetle. To me it's a Beetle

To them it's not a Beetle Even though it's the first Beetle to actually be called a Beetle, but that's another thread

But to me the New Shape Bug is wrong. Funny how i feel so strongly against my a/cooled friends then feel a hypocrite for disliking the New New Beetle.

Well, the A/C crowd just isn't fond of the W/C crowd in general, its not just old Beetles and NBs. I have a love of all things VW, old, new, air, water, bug, bus, gas, diesel.

just this weekend my bf was saying how he doesn't like the fenders on the newer beetles - and i had no idea what he was talking about! he tried to explain about the flat part / how it looked like the car was put on its side and then filed down... as we are driving around he found a newer beetle to show me - i had no idea that change was made! i guess i need to pay more attention to details
so it makes me wonder, what other changes were made? i know the head/tail lights have changed, the turn signals on the mirrors, the flat parts on the fender (not sure what to call that).... what else?

All '06+ cars, along with the facelift, got the 2.5L engine (except for a few TDI's in '06). No other engine options. Most changes were just cosmetic though.

The newer style is growing on me...but I still prefer the rounder style. I guess the newer has a more "sleek" look since it's got flat fenders, long thin blinkers, elongated headlights and taillights. But I didn't buy the beetle for the "sleek" look. I bought it because it is round! And it's a diesel

i'm partial to pretty much any and all things VW...but sure i have favorites....

we've owned both a 2003 nbc and a 2009 nbc (current daily)....

i like the new new beetles a lot, with my only real criticism being the lack of aftermarket accessories for this body style, i guess by the time VW got around to "updating" their new beetle, the rest of the world lost interest.....

to each his own....it wont be long before we see a new new new beetle....

At first I really was not a fan & said I'd never own one.. but now they've grown on me. The rounder style is definitely my favorite & that's what I own, but I've come around to the 06+ styling as well!

You feel bad now- just wait until the B3 comes out in 2012

The B2 (06-10) have grown on me and i have no dislike for them. Still the B1 is the one for me.

I like some features from the 98-05 style (front and rear grill, round fenders) and some features from 06+ (tail lights and re-designed cupholders). Some one mentioned in the votex thread that VW should have used the Turbo S/votex bumper for all Beetles. Put the Turbo S bumper on a 98-05 NB TDI with 06+ tails and new cupholders - sign me up!!

The 06+ is definitely my favorite.. it's just more sleek and grown-up looking to me. I was testing a 2004 a week before I bought my 2006.... I'm glad I waited and shopped around now.
