Default Wish me luck.............

found a basketcase on craigslist. It's a 98 that has been sitting for two years. Guy states he took it to vw dealership to work on drivers door lock and since then car sometimes starts. It also triggers alarm. So am planning on seeing it sometime this weekend and will not go in with rose colored glasses. It's red with manual transmission and cracked windshield. Yes with all of its faults I'm super excited to see it, I've wanted one for YEARS now and it will be our little summer runabout. Luckily for me my husband is very mechanically inclined so these problems don't scare us.
Hoping to be a owner soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's always nice to hear about someone saving a NB! You're so fortunate to have that hubby.

If it were me, I would run the other way. But, if, after looking it over, the price is right and your hubby thinks he can tackel the problems, then go softly into that deal.

Good luck to you! Let us know!

My hubby is mechanically inclined also but still be very careful because some issues with the bugs can be quite expensive.. So know your stuff and just think about it.. Very Great luck though.. My Smurfette needs some work and I knew that before I handed over the money to get her.. lol.. so I completely understand..

Thanks for the feedback. We are fully aware that it could be a complete disaster. Funny thing is I have a pic of my husband twenty years ago working on my first car (70 bug) and the look on his face is priceless. That car was crazy-ice on the windshield, inside of course, if it rained and I ran over a puddle you had to raise your feet because of the water getting inside the car, wheel bearings gone haywire, chugging up oil, and the last straw was driving home from college and seeing flames in the mirror. Ah the memories......

Do I still love them, of course. All of the quirks that accompanies them. My mom had one, grandmom too and everyone of them had faults but I still can't help but smile when I see one on the road. No other vehicle does it for me like the bug. The look, sound, and even smell-I test drove one a few years back and it was like smelling a giant box of crayons.

We will see what happens with this one, I'm hoping to hear back from the guy later tonight.
