Default What bugs you about your Bug?

No relationship is perfect, so what bugs you about your Bug? Could be that little quirk that you just can't get worked out. Could be something a PO did, could be something you did. Interior, exterior, motor, etc.

I thought of this yesterday as I was getting into my car after work. I absolutely am puzzled by my seats. I'm bugged by the grey cloth. First of all, my drivers seat is ripped On top of that, they are covered in stains. Not sure what the PO did, but the car came that way (the dealer even cleaned them and couldn't get them out!). I can even get stains on the bottom part of the front seats (spilled drinks sitting on the seat that don't fit in the cupholder...heck, I'm guilty of that ) but they are on the back part of the front seats, and on the back seats! And I can't clean them, its impossible. I'm not looking for leather, but I wouldn't mind picking up a set of black cloth so they look cleaner. Ugh. Stupid color of the interior.

Probie has a lot of weird "quirks"

Can't seem to figure out why the driver side courtsey door light won't work. The door dings when I open it with the key in, so it's not the switch...and checked the bulb..not that. So

My driver seat will jack up, but not back down. That's irritating. Especially when other people adjust the seat for one reason or another.

Still having some quirks with the 5spd. Shifting seems easier now, but I'm still grinding when shifting into second...and ONLY second gear. Weird.

Other than that....I think that's about it. Probie has been good otherwise. Compared to some beetles I've read about, he has had little to no electrical issues *knock on wood*

Probie currently has a strange issue of pulling to the right when stopping. Sometimes VERY severe! I think it has to do with his bent rim on that side. I'll find out soon. I'm hoping that the hole didn't hurt any suspension parts that JUST got replaced barely 4 months ago!!!

Oh and the headliner is nasty. Not sure how. But it is. Can't get the stains out either. Very strange....

Daisy Revolution's "clicker" for the turn signals freaks out on occasion! You know the sound the turn signals make? well Daisy's will randomly go off - and its not the normal paced clicking, its sometimes faster, sometimes slower - very random. i know i could get it fixed by replacing the turn signal switch - but doesn't consistantly happen and i've learned to ignore it.

And She can't decide which sound to use when the driver's door open and she's running (i stop at the top of my driveway to get the mail) - sometimes its a constant "beeeeeeeep" and other times its a "ding, ding, ding"

It has to be the freakin CEL. I own a 98 Jetta TDI, 10 Tiguan, and the 03 NB GLS turbo...the NB loves to throw on the CEL...I think my laptop and the bug are falling in love!

I love my little "white lightening" (1999) but...

door only beeps intermittently when locking

I have an engine shudder ONLY when idling that I'm trying to figure out

Cup holders suck big time. Of all the design flaws, I think that one is the most irksome. DId no one sit in the car and try to put a cup in it?

That everything is so hard to get to in the engine compartment, therefore costing more $$ when the mechanic has to repair simple things. Im used to a 1965 VW squareback!

Yeah the seats are not easy to clean. I'm an auto detailer and though I have the black cloth seats (thank heaven) there are still spots I can't get out. I am buying some aftermarket front seat covers in black leather I saw and that will update the interior some and be easy to clean. No more cloth seats. No one sits in the back so no problem there.

Last but not least, that the black rubber coating on everything inside is SO UGLY when it starts peeling off. Ugh!

VW isn't the best when it comes to cupholders. The B4 Passats had terrible cupholders...it was in a holder thing that you folded open, but it was on the passenger side and was easily stepped on and broken when opened. My hubby used to have one. Cupholders were broken. Those are the only ones in the car. And since no one else has them, they are seriously expensive to buy used. New from the dealer was $60!

- Black cloth interior shows dirt like crazy! It looks so dingy 2 days after I shampoo it. The carpet gets crazy dirty too. I don't allow passengers and it still happens. Very annoying since I live in an apartment and can't vacuum it out very often.

- My driver side door courtesy light doesn't work. Good bulb, good wiring.

- Cupholders! Need I say more? I use the back one which is hard to reach because I'm so short & sit close to the steering wheel.

- It lurches when going into Drive. Hopefully I've figured out this problem...

I have more interior annoyances, but those will all be solved with a can of paint next week.

Have you checked into a bad microswitch on your drivers door? I'd be willing to bet thats why your light doesn't come on. Do your interior lights come on when you open the door?

My other lights come on with the door open. It's just that one light on the door that doesn't work.

1. The idiotic cupholders

2. The ridiculously bad radio reception

3. The HUGE blind spots caused by the wide front and rear pillars

4. The fact that you can hardly go a month without some sensor, switch or relay going on the fritz

5. Can they make it any harder to replace a bulb?

Sounds like you have the same issue I do. though I volt checked my entire wire in the door...nothing. So I have a bad wire...SOMEWHERE. But the other lights come on, car locks and arms itself, and beeps as normal when the lights are on. Not sure what the deal is. Haven't really dug much deeper into it yet. Just irritating though.

The check engine light loves us. Granted, each of the 3 times it has come on it has not been a big deal at all or changed the ride quality and i've gotten it taken care of right away.. it's just one of those irritating things that you want to punch!

1. CEL - it's a glow plug and/or overboost
2. lack of power - my mechanic is convinced the turbo is shot
3. random plastic/rubber parts that seem to pop out of place and (most of the time) pop back in fairly easily

Other than that, Daisy and I are doing quite well at the moment!!
