Default Kaitlin's Black 98 Beetle

Seems like a long time since I've posted New member ! :D but it's only been a little over a month and a lot has happened.

Date of purchase 06/14/10

1998 VW Beetle 2.0 (bought it black)
CEL: on
Mileage: 143,xxx
Current: 146,xxx

I couldn't track down a picture of him when I got him but he was a mess. Previous owner had neon lights underneath that didn't even work, that was the first thing I removed. The shift knob was missing the plastic piece with the R,1,2,3,4,5 on it, drivers side courtesy light/ reflector was missing, vase was missing , no floor mats or A/C, the tan cloth seats are a mess, front VW emblem was peeling, roof was rusted and clear coat was peeling, Monsoon was scratched and the buttons didn't even work, headliner was sagging, hood latch bent and hardly worked, only came with valet key and old unlock, lock,&truck buttons. So if anything I felt like I saved this Beetle

At that point I had the roof repaired and repainted white, shaved antenna, black got very hot in the summer, it felt like a sauna when I got in. New shift knob and Monsoon (thanks to ECStunig) Finally had A/C, new spark plugs, oil change, headlights cleared up, Euro front and back emblems, and Euro emblem on the steering wheel. Anyway he was running like a champ.

Then came my brother, backing up into the drivers side door with his Avalanche , didn't even see me parked behind him, but the door had rust anyways, so I went to the junkyard two days later and got us some red doors

Sadly I had to drive to Chicago (3 hour trip) on a bad wheel bearing. On the way back got almost and hour away from home and hit a dead deer in the middle of the road. I felt like nothing could have gone more wrong!

We got it tore apart, the deer had wrecked the radiator, A/C Condenser, muffler, and ripped the 02 sensor housing off. The smell was awful!

New radiator, control arms, ball joints, front tires, 02 housing & A/C condenser. Front license plate holder removed and both courtesy lights replaced, thanks to http://newbeetle.org/forums/members/the-new-ringo.html

But now sadly,my car won't lock....and we noticed the whole front had been replaced along with the driver's door which previous owner didn't know or failed to mention.
Preparing for Summer, 17" Denvers.

Just took out the headliner and steering wheel spokes today to get them taken care of. Whew !

Oh and my mom's orange Beetle

Wow sounds like my luck.. I need to replace my doors and rear bumper on Smurfette. But I am driving her anyways and love every minute of it I kinda like the two tone of the car being black and doors being red but that's my personal opinion keep up all the great work

What happened?! Ya I enjoy it being three different colors!. I turn a lot of heads
For a minute there, it was one thing after another. Luckily the list of repairs is getting shorter

Can you let me know how much success you've had with the beige cloth seats? Mine are looking really bad, and the more I try and clean them, the worse the watermarks get despite getting as much moisture up as I can. Headed for seat covers, I think.
