Angry Really Bugged!!

Okay, so my boyfriend of 3 years tells me today that he and his dad hate Tink. It really made me mad, because as a 24 year old lady, I finally have my dream car and they are bringing me down! Are they jelouse? I mean I understand that Bugs aren't for everyone, but how do you tell someone who is on cloud 9 that they FINALLY got their bug that you hate her? Tink never messed with them. She takes up the least amount of space in the driveway/garage, they don't have to drive her, and me and my daughter love her!! Then to top this off, they tell me this today. After I found out Tink may be sick. Her CEL came on. I took her to have her hooked up to the computer and found out it is probably the accelerator. On top of having to take her to the Dr. on Thursday to get her timing belt/waterpump replaced, her 80,000 mile tune up, and her gas door release fixed. I am trying really hard to make her just right. I want her running great, feeling great, and all tuned up.... Let's hope Thursday comes off ok. And nothing bad is found. It's already going to be more thn 1,000 dollars, and I still am not getting my door locks reprogramed so my keyless entry will work. I hate using the key in the door, because I do not want to scratch Tink up....

Look at your own signature.

It doesn't matter what other people think. This is your baby, and you are attached. What she means to you is all that matters. She is going to need a few expensive fixes here and there, but I promise, your car will be more reliable than most cars (and people!)

Chin up!

I would tell them to suck it up. This is your car, not theirs. If you and your daughter love Tink then that's all that matters.

Ignore the naysayers. If you love your car, continue to do so. Don't react, or make a big deal of it in front of them. Think of it, as they are just jealous.

If they say that again, just smile sweetly, and give Tink a nice pat.

As a dude and a beetle owner, I agree with your comments ladies- very well said.

Sometimes us men can be flat out stupid, just to be stupid- no rhyme or reason, just being stupid. They say "once a man, twice a child"- well sometimes I think we never get to the man part. Them hatin' on your Tink, just to be hatin on it sounds so 3rd grade playground stuff.

I could possibly see them being annoyed if they were working on the bug, but even so, the work being done on tink is basic maintenance things, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Why they can't be happy for you is weird to me. Guess they never heard "if Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy". They better tighten up and quit acting a fool. Just one man's opinion

Don't let them sway you from who you are and what you like. They're just gonna have to get over it and like Kathryn said "Suck it up"!

I like this. Lol, I will never understand men. So I'm guessing the one I got has the IQ of a 3rd grader, as a former elementary school teacher, I guess I'll start handling like I would any kid on the playground.

Here's the good news! It's not the locks that get programmed to the remotes (keyfobs), its the keyfobs that get programmed to the contol module receiver in the car. Most dealers will do this for free. Do not tell the Dealer about this when you put her in. Go to your Service Writer after the fact and ask him/her "how much?" to do it. After spending what you are talking about, if the Service Writer doesn't him/herself go do it for you for free, don't ever go back. P/m me and I'll walk you through it, takes about 30 seconds!

Oh, and tell you boyfriend, et al, when they buy your car, pay for the maintenance, upkeep, gas and insurance they can "recommend" what "they think" you should be driving! Or as we say down here, f-u-k-u-m!

I'm not sure why your remote(s) is/are not working. Could be as simple as needing to be reset, could be a battery issue, or it could be a damaged transmitter (the remote), or a bad receiver (control unit) in the car.

If you have multiple keys, up to four can be programmed, but they have to all be programmed at the same time, so be sure to take any and all keys.

If you need, or want a second, third or fourth key, contrary to what the dealer says, they can be purchased from a locksmith, or a locksmith can cut your blank key, and you don't need the "code" that was sent in the Owners Manual when the car was new to produce this/these key(s).

If you don't have a second remote, and you don't have the correct "code", I would strongly advise getting a second key. If you loose the one key you have, and don't have the code, it's about $900 from the dealership to correct the "problem". I working with a guy right now who has this situation.

I will probably loose track of this thread and/or simply may miss a post from you. If I can help you in anyway simply p/m me. Rare I don't see a p/m sometime within a 24 hr time period.

Good luck, with Tink, and with your boyfriend!

Do you have two keys for your car? The programming process is simple. Make sure the battery in the remote FOB is good. Open the door and insert the master (not valet) key into the igniton and turn it on (if you've only got one master -- ie remote -- key pull the key top off and stick it in the ignition and keep the FOB outside the car with you). Using the spare key, lock the driver door. Press the unlock button, wait 2 seconds, press it again and the car should unlock the door. You are now programmed!

As for the others: eh, what do they know? It's an intimidating vehicle to someone who has never worked on it. I had a MOPAR Head "helping" with my disc brakes and complaining the whole time. He came out only after he said he had a date and wasn't gonna help me, and I treaded out there in the 26F cold with a power inverter, a desk lamp, and some gloves. Had the wheel off and was working the caliper off by the time he came out. I didn't need his help, but he did offer.... and then complained about the design.

I thought the design was frighteningly straight forward. What scared me was the locking screw for the rotor is bent -- both of them -- so I need new ones.

But don't let them get you down. Not worth it.

They don't sound very nice, telling you that. Usually, people try to tell others we are happy for them when they are so happy about something. That is odd that they are being like that.

I thought so,too. But the funny thing is, when I dropped Tink off at the "dr" today, they gave me a rental-a Jetta (which I DO NOT love like I do my Tink, but it's not a bad ride at all), and the first thing anyone said when they pulled up was "Where is Tink?" I laughed because they didnt ask about "the bug", "the car", or anything else. They wanted to know about TINK. Hahaha to be so mean about it, I think them calling her by her name while she isn't here ALMOST made up for it. I didn't like leaving her at the dealership overnight, and they promised she would be done by 5 tonight, so I am a little leary about leaving her there. Now her estimated time of release is before lunch tomorrow. I know they know what they are doing, but she won't be tucked in nice and warm and get her goodnight pat from me. It's almost scary how much these cars become part of us, our family, and our way of life. I feel like I have another baby(one that doesn't wake up inthe middle of the night to get in my bed!)
