How Did You Find Your Used NB?

Local dealer?

I set out to find one when my 1969 air-cooled left me stranded for the 6th and (might I add) final time. First, I searched Autotrader.com and looked at a few over by Minneapolis, since used ones over there were generally cheaper as opposed to Eau Claire, Wi. But oddly enough, I found one at a local Mazda dealership! My maximum budget was about $8000, and this place had a 2005 model for about $12,000. Hoping to get the price down, I test-drove it. They wouldn't budge, but they happened to have a 2000 Cyber Green GLS with 70K miles on it at one of their other dealerships. They brought it to me and let me take it home. I bought it the next day for $6995.

We found it on Craigslist but looked on ebay and local newspapers. It took us about a month.

My parents got mine from a local dealer. But they also looked at some from private sellers, I think they looked in the newspaper.

Found Cup online through a now defunct online/cable channel service called NetLook.

Like any form of car advertising media, do your research on service records and such- you have the added bounus of your fellow orgers for advice too

I compared used NB prices on Cars.com and Carmax.com to get a running average of the price of a (at the time) 3-5 year old 1.8 Turbo, manual transmission. When I had that number, along with the average mileage for that number, I then changed settings on cars.com and ebay to private sellers within 150 miles. Matilda was locally owned, about 4 miles away, had 17000 miles less than the average, and was $2000 less than the average price.

Financing was through my own bank, and the rest is history.

I used hankshelper.com to search all of the car sites. It's also neat because I can search all the craigslists within X miles from my zip code. Found one in Up State NY about ~160 miles from me in NJ. Well worth it!

Thankfully the SF Bay Area has a LOT of VW dealers to choose from...we looked at about five different lots until we found my sweet '08 black Beetle.

We tried Craigslist, but nothing turned out great.

Capitol VW and Winn VW are awesome to do business with!!

I found mine of craigslist and got it through a dealer. It's a 2000 GLS with 87,000 miles on it. It was in great condition and I got it for around $6,500.

found my beetle in my cousin's drive way, he wasn't using it and it was neglected, bought it , cleaned it, tuned it up and parked my GMC Yukon, (thank god i parked that beast 130.00+ a week in gas) and use the bug to go all day and night .
