So, like any responsible new NB owner, I'm reading the 2008 owner's manual.
I've come to the conclusion that operating an automobile is hazardous.
This thing reads like someone's neurotic mother wrote it! (You know, the kind of mom who made you wear a helmet to avoid a chess-related injury?). Every feature has a
! (Ironically, I can't find the info I need due to wading through all the caution boxes. Without these ridiculous excessive warnings , the manual would be 1/4 the size it is now).
My favorite warning (so far) is the one about that hazardous
BUD VASE: "The vase should always be empty whenever you drive the car. In case of sudden braking, any water or object in the vase could spill out onto you or into the dashboard. This can cause you to have a accident" (p.115).
Airbags, check. Seatbelts, check. Flower removal, check.
This is almost as good as the stern reminder
not to drive with the doors open. Followed by instructions about
what to do if you find yourself in that situation. I am not making this up!
C'mon !!!!
BTW, I am fully aware that the manual is co-authored by engineers
and attorneys.
