I just did my research and this car was well maintained so I jumped on it! Timing belt was done a little over 20k ago by a local shop that I'm familiar with. Coils were replaced by the dealer under recall. I've read a lot on here in the 1.8T section over the years and I know a lot of people with 1.8T cars so even though I never owned one, I sure learned a lot about them!

Happy to hear you are recovering. Congratulations on the GTI! A 180 hp and a 6 speed? What more could one ask for?

Things are moving slowly, but hopefully I should be getting a better insurance $ offer this week. Sending over some receipts from maintenance and comparable dealer listings in the area. Fingers crossed this all goes smoothly from now on, though I know it probably won't. *sigh*

Still loving the GTI. Took it on a decent highway run last night. Drove over an hour to meet my parents for dinner and show them the car I'll probably have to fill up in the next couple days so we'll see what I get mileage wise. Its had some spirited runs on this tank, and it was detailed Saturday and ran an ozone machine through it, which required it to idle with the AC on for a bit. But I'm hoping for 23ish. That would be what the Beetle was getting so I'd be thrilled for that. More is awesome too

I'll be started a pic thread for him tonight. We went and took some shots of him yesterday afternoon since all I really had were phone pics since I got it. And he was nicely detailed and shiney so I had to make sure I captured that before it got too dirty! Oh, and his name is Günther!

Well, no bites on the engine/trans. Insurance is taking the car. Turned the plate in today and sounded like CoPart was coming today to get her I'm pretty sad, but her sitting at my buddy's shop wasn't doing any good. If we weren't buying a house, I might have thought more heavily about buying her back but we just won't have the time to part her. And if we never made the money to make up the salvage difference, it would have been a waste. Getting almost $5k for her.

I'm keeping her metal budvase and the Europlate I bought for her last year at H2O (says "IM BUGGIN") and they will be in the new garage with our other VW stuff Still have her floor mats to sell but otherwise, I think I've got everything sold off that I had. Now, time to move on and put some money towards our new place and the GTI

(Oh, and MORAV, I haven't forgotten about you! On the hunt for a box...)
