Cool What major repairs have your Beetles received?

I am very surprived to see many Beetles run quite strong, which changes my mind that only Jap cars can last long

I am wondering what major mechanical repairs/maintenance has your
New Beetle received so far? Say at 75k and 100k miles?

Is your Beetle as reliable as other makes/models as long as you take great care of it?

My 2003.5 is at 145,000 miles.

ORIGINAL clutch (never replaced) - I even learned how to drive a manual with this baby!
ORIGINAL turbo (never replaced) - I run it hard too.

The major repairs that have been done are:
Timing belt - Replaced when it needed to be done.
Water pump - Replaced at the same time as the timing belt.
Radiator - My fault. I ran into the back of someone.
Hood - Again, my fault since I ran into someone.
Coil packs - Under warranty.

To be honest, the things that I have had done are things that needed to be done either because of warranty work, me rear ending someone, or because it was just time (regular maintenance). Zoomer has been AMAZING. *knock on wood*

At 75 k Timing Belt Service. At 150k Cat Back exhaust. Temp Sensor went out which was about 24 bucks. Installed new Control arm bushings and now I am getting ready to install new new struts and shocks. That is pretty much it. 170k miles and still going strong.

Define "major"....

Turbo failed and replaced under warranty at 58k
Tb and water pump replaced at 90k (regular maintenance)
Struts replaced at 100k (reg maintenance)
Shocks replaced at 118k (regular maintenance)
And a few diesel specific issues with glow plugs, relay and harness, some under recall and some not, partially due to the fact that VW couldn't get its head together and decide what kind of glow plugs to use

At 50,000 miles I changed:
Timing belt
Tensioner Roller
Tensioner assembly
Idler roller (comes on the tensioner assembly)
Water pump with metal impeller
Accessory drive belt
Thermostat
The G12 Coolant
Thermostat Housing
OEM motor mount bolts (4)
Camshaft seal
Crankshaft seal
See: Timing Belt/ Water Pump...it's time!

My 06 TDI hasn't needed any repairs so far but I've only had her a little more than 3 months. Next year she will be due for a new water pump, belts, etc...

My previous NB had

* Water pump, belts, tranny fluid & filter, pollen filter, motor mount bolts, brake pads & fluid, thermostat, and new coolant at 70,000 (routine maintenance)
* Throttle body replaced at 35,000 miles
* Oil pan at 45,000 miles(my fault)
* Coolant, shocks, struts, and brake fluid replaced at 100,000 miles (routine maintenance)
* Spark plugs and spark plug wires replaced at 90,000 miles
* Coolant temp sensor replaced 5 times (he seemed to eat them)
* Battery replaced twice (once at 35,000 and again at 82,000)

Overall Wilson was such a good little car but I know his transmission was on the way out. It had been slipping more and more and probably would've died within a couple thousand miles.
