I get more waves from people not driving Beetles, especially people driving trucks.

Smile Wave and they'll catch on

It seems to be an older beetle thing. Used to get millions of waves in my old 73. I don't care I wave to every beetle I see and if they don't wave back that's just their hard luck. I figure that so long as we continue to wave people will eventually catch on???

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Ha - I got really grumped at this morning for waving - "what's the point - no one ever waves back - people will get the wrong idea..."

What wrong idea??? I said I don't care - I'd carry on waving till they did wave back

I had a Red NB behind me this morning on the off ramp, we were waiting to turn; I looked right at her in the mirror and waved backward. Got no response, not even a facial one.

Perhaps she did not have her coffee yet this morning.

My first drive, I had an air cooled wave at me, caught me by surprise as we were headed in opposite directions. So after that I started waving at other bugs. Not one waveback yet I've gotten some weird stares and myob looks, nobody seems to be in the mood for waving. It must be the traffic has them all one step shy of road rage

I just picked up my previously loved NBC on 8/25 and have found that other beetles and those on motorcycles (when the top is down) wave often. Yesterday I pulled up to a light and a woman in another NBC pulled next to me and since it was a great day and both tops were down I just said "Cute car!" and she replied in kind.

I think NB drivers are viewed by others as more friendly than the average folk.

The only car that I've owned that got consistant waves was my 1972 MGBGT. I guess that's because if you are that much into self torture (maintenance is a beeyotch) then other owners feel your pain equally. That said however, I have gotten only 1 wave since January, and I wave at everyone.

Aww! How can you have road rage, or even be in a bad mood when you're driving a NB?!

i was driving next to a curby-look-a-like today and the woman driving and caught up to me, both looked over and were waving! i got a tear in my eye! i love it!

i have found a few tips that might ensure a wave back:

1) wave early. give the other NB a chance to see you instead of waving the second you pass each other.
2) if possible, stick your hand outside the car and wave.
3) wave frantically! nothing says "hell-o stranger!" like a spastic arm waving about your car. big waves = higher change of recognition.
4) wave often. your chances of getting a wave back increase if you wave more often. who knows, it might start catching on!

Unhappy

I'm a salsa owner and at first waved at every new beetle and said "oh hi!". No one waves back. Now I haven't been waving. But I still love my most AWESOMELY perfect car.

Well, it is a little "out there" to wave at strangers on the road and the rate of return is certainly small but the "fun factor" of when someone does return the greeting is very high. Some who hadn't waved initially have started waving recently. Who else, other than Beetle owners, waves at strangers on the road (maybe Jeep owners...maybe)? I've been waving daily for years. I haven't regretted a single wave...
