Default Who says New Beetles are small?

My wife and I bought a new loveseat at Ikea yesterday, and needed to get it home. Luckily, the hatch opening was 1" wider than the width of the loveseat, and Ikea provided twine to tie down the hatch.

Here's proof that a New Beetle isn't as small as people think:

We drove 30 miles at 61mph with it like this, and had no problems.

I hope you don't mind, but I lightened up the second pic so you can see it better.

My first experience with space was trying to put a footstool in the back of the bug. My 3 year old was in the back so folding the seat was not an option. It was a good laugh had by all. My last daily driver was a P/U.

Nah, I don't mind. I didn't bother cleaning it up, and for some reason my flash wasn't working properly. It'd go off, but the pic came out dark. I've got 2 other pics that are even darker than the one I posted.

Great thread! Bugs are always bigger then you think; a bit like a TARDIS.

Great pic! Our cars are much bigger then they look!

On Saturday I had both boys in the back seat in their car seats, my wife wedged in between them, a full size charbroil gas grillon the front passenger seat, and the dog in the hatch with a 20 gallon cooler and two camp chairs!

We must have looked like the circus clowns getting out of the car!

Thankyou for posting! Im going to Ikea in 2 weeks, and I have to find a "simple" loveseat for my place. I was wondering, if the one I wanted would fit.

However my drive home is 4.5 hours and the speed limit is 70.. Hmm, maybe I should use a truck.

Great picture, anyways

i personally think Nb's are big....

REALLy! They should make a smaller, 2 seater, engine in the back new beetle. That would be very sporty

We got the Klippan loveseat in Kottla white:

We also picked up a Udden shelf for the kitchen area.

As for the speed, I could have driven faster than 61mph, it was just easier to set cruise control and not worry about it. The only portion of the trip I was worried about was after getting off the Tollway and driving through downtown to our loft. The drive was pretty much a straight shot south, with gentle curves.

Our cats already love the new loveseat, too:
