OK. So here's the updadte. I never tried to hide this happened. I totally agree with what you're saying. I reported it to the "operator-in-charge" who was on shift with me last night when the damage happened. In the morning, the bosses weren't here so I asked one of the friendlier guys downstairs to try and straighten the panels out. He did, and they looked fine when I got here tonight. Now I sent off an e-mail to the supervisor, detailing exactly what happened, with my apology. I'll see what he says in the morning if I see him. Apparently, though some of the maintenance guys were making snarky comments to my friend who was fixing it, that I was trying to hide it. They are not who I report to, so it's none of their business, but the rumors make me sick. I swear these guys gossip more than a bunch of old women. And being the youngest person here by far, not to mention one of very few women - I guess I make a somewhat exciting gossip topic for these middle-aged guys. Should I send some kind of "yeah, I did it" e-mail to all of them to shut them up? Thanks so much you guys for being there for me.
And Amy, was it the "poop" in the thread title that drew you back out of your org "retirement?" Good to see you here - place wouldn't be the same without you

Don't make any other comments about it, except to those who have a right to now (which you have already done to management). Don't fuel the fire by sending out communications. Stay silent, mind your own business about it as if nothing happened, and it will go away much more quickly. The longer you react to their gossip and comments, the longer it hangs around....besides its none of their business any way! If anything, be a comedienne about it if you have to react (except to management of course).

The more you feel you are the 'young girl' in the office, the more things like this will worry you and affect your relationships with your co-workers
Every single employee has made at least one serious error at a job, a few years from now its a laugh at an office party.
FWIW I was off duty so I couldn't be written up for this, but my mail Jeep did the same thing...and rolled backwards and over a city street sign at the daycare....not nice for the maillady to drive over things

For some strange reason old men tend to gossip, because they have a hate for the way the world is nowadays. It would be a big mistake to say anything to them, because another one of their traits is to never let things rest. On top of that, you know you're doing the right thing. Hold your head high and let them look like idiots. Sometimes silence is your best weapon.

Talking My girl is pretty AND tough!

I spoke with the supervisor the other day and he didn't seem too miffed. When he came to look at the door, he just said I was lucky that it was the steel door and not the concrete wall that the car ran into. Mostly, though, he muttered stuff about how fudging tough my little car is. He almost couldn't believe it looking at it, that the steel panel door was so dented and not a scratch on the bug. He muttered some more, looking suspiciously at Ladybug - I think he secretly wants one for his daughter (my age) now!
