Default OMG!!! Anyone awake? Need advice before "poop hits fan"

I can't believe what I just did
I came to work tonight for my night shift and left the car outside before I relieved the previous shift. This spot is before the overhead door that leads into the loading bay where I park the bug at night so it's safe. The car was on a downhill slope toward the door, but I always put the e-brake on and it's OK. Well, it wasn't tonight. While I was in the control room talking to the previous shift, I could see the outside cameras and suddenly I saw my car where it deffinitely shouldn't be. Right at the overhead door! So I sprinted down to see just how many $1000s of damage I did to my baby. I couldn't see even a scratch, except for my front license plate (knock on wood). But the door? Oh, the humanity. My baby squished the two lowest panels on the overhead door in at least 2". Then, I guess, it bounced back because it was at least a foot away from the door when I got there. The door looks horrible! In the morning everyone is going to notice! Not to mention the boss! I feel like such an idiot. I also feel something like surviver guilt, strangely enough? What do I say in the morning? I am beyond anxious... there isn't even an emoticon for what I feel. Is there anything I can say that will not sound like I'm a total idiot? I have to mention, this is a male-dominated workplace, and I'm afraid they will dismiss me as just another silly female...

I don't usually bring a camera to work, but the bosses can view it on security camera footage if they want. So what do I say to all those guys so I don't look like an idiot? They would love to make a big deal out of it. Not to mention I did some damage to the workplace...

The good news is that your Beetle is OK.

The bad news is that the door is probably going to have to be repaired, but those overhead doors don't have to be replaced completely, as far as I know. They can replace the two panels and everything should be fine.

But if you had your car in gear and the parking brake on, I can't see why they would fault you. "Stuff happens." But then again, if you expect the worst, you'll never be disappointed and sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised. Naw, that's a way to spend a shift from hell.

It's not like you did it while you were talking on your cell phone and driving, or something equally stupid. I wouldn't freak out until you talk to your supervisor or someone and tell them what happened. Hang in there!

Thanks for the input. I know stuff happens, but it's supposed to happen to stupid ppl. Like Jessica Simpson? I'm not even blonde!
I am contemplating spreading a malicious rumor about myself, that I did it under the influence. That's something blue-colar guys will understand, no?

That is what your company has insurance for. It was just an accident, luckily a minor one. Don't sweat it. These things happen.

Next time, parking brake pulled tight *and* in gear.

Yeah, lesson learned about the "in gear" thing. No question about it.
I still don't know how to explain this in our morning meeting with 25 tough guys staring at me, so they don't automatically think "silly female - what can you expect?"
Did I mention I'm 26 and the youngest person here by far? And I will be the only woman in that meeting tomorrow besides the secretary? I worked really hard to get some respect from those guys, and really don't want to start from scratch.

Tell what happened, and it will be fine. Not okay, but fine.

Sometimes, poop happens, and you got to wipe it up, or it will leave a mess.

I'll think about ya, though.

I would think that your auto insurance should cover the damage to the door, so long as you have property damage coverage. They may have you pay for the damage that way.

This is probably a little late...but usually stuff you try to do to cover up or hide or make up a story for ends up making it worse. Like others have said...stuff happens. If one of those big tough guys can't fix it then your auto coverage would take care of it. Hopefully you don't have to make a claim for that as it will impact your future rates, etc...

Let us know what happened.

Tell them it was an accident that won't happen again. Then ask them if they have never done anything stupid in their life. All those guys I'm sure will have at least a story or two EACH to tell! As long as no one was hurt it should be no biggie. Don't forget to update us!

Not quite....first off insurance is for catastrophic instances not instances of financial incovenience, but more importantly, if the company did turn it into their insurance carrier, that insurance carrier would turn around and go after Ewa for her fault in not parking her car properly, which then means Ewa gets credited for an accident, since the property damage portion of her auto policy would have to pay. The last person behind the wheel, who doesn't properly park their car, should it move and cause damage, gets credit for the "accident".

Cool

You know, just don't make a big deal out of it and the guys will leave you alone. Guys and girls all make errors. If one decides to make something of it, then tell him that you can't wait for him to make an error and then try to cover it up with some lie. That'll shut 'em up...
