Very cool!! I'm so glad other drivers do this.

Is it just for 'New Beetles', or for any VW vehicle?

Jeeps do it, but since I drive a Liberty, I get very few. Wranglers do it the most - it's a lot of fun.

Cool

It seems to me that Beetles do the exchange more often because of their unique styling and, likely, the type of people who tend to buy Beetles. I also ran into this phenomenon while owning my '66 Bus and '85 Westfalia Camper, but not my Squarebacks or Dasher...

I got my first wave today - when taking her for a test drive!! Actually, I flashed first, but the driver of the other car (with the top down) waved back

Bikers always nod at other bikers too - actually I still nod, but realised earlier that probably noone can see that, being in a car!!

Default I got another one!

I was waiting to turn left out of my little street, lighting a cigarette, and then I see this beautiful Salsa Red NB going across. I smiled and waved at the young female driver, and she caught right on and did the same. That was so cool! It gave me such a warm feeling of belonging to an exclusive club of really nice (if somewhat nutty - myself included) people. Great antidote for life in the anonymous Megacity.

So many bugs here in orlando and I never get a wave...When I had an MG, I'd get waves, when I had a Miata, I'd get waves occasionally, with my beetle, people just think I'm kooky...

On my way out of town Saturday morning I was on the tollway when a (rabbit?) vw passed me. The driver was waving at me in such a way that I thought I must know him. It actually took me a second to realize he was waving because we were both driving vw. It was really great and started my day off with a wonderful feeling.

No wonder! I love the key sticking out of the back and the black spoiler. Very cool looking car!

I got a "hey" from a mustang vert today. Very nice in upstate NY and lots of verts out this week.

I also got a rude honk from some lady who wanted me to move while I was waiting at a red light. Apparently, she wanted to go across my lane to get into a plaza. Killerbug would have rolled down her window and asked if the driver could please scoot up a few inches so she could get by, instead of laying on the horn so obnoxiously. I obviously would have heard her with the top and windows down. Anyway, I could not award such behavior so I looked right at her and stayed where I was .

In my defense, before anyone scolds me for stooping to her level, I could have displayed a non-org-friendly gesture!

Default Waving, Lights & Notes

Waves and light flickers get me going too and I just can't wipe that grin off my face. So I have to tell you this one.
I work at a large corporation in the executive offices and there are virtually no NB's in the whole lot. Occasionaly another one or maybe even two but rarely.
This week it was a cloudy morning when who parked beside me but a woman didn't know and a NB. I waited for her to gather her things and to introduce myself. I started asking how she enjoyed her car etc. and how thrilled I was to have her parked next to me and she frowned and shrugged me off. I walked ahead and went on with my day (vowing I would stop talking to "strangers").
At the end of the day, tired and late, I was driving out of the lot in the drizzle and noticed a note on my windshield. Tried to read it from the inside and realized it was a note (not an advertisement.) The NB lady dropped me a note on her business card, apologizing for her rude behavour and saying her car was a breath of fresh air - and thanked me for her stopping her that morning. Well that made my day! Of course I've saved that very wet note and will keep it for some time I'm sure. I love my NB too!

I'm happy to read the other driver came around ,since I've only owned my Beetle for 1 month and 7 days(who's counting?)I've also been having that what's the use feeling, not one response from waves, thumbs-up or tagging .I've given into waiting to see if the other driver waves first, which at times can be hard to due since so many NBs have tinted windows. Deep down I know I won't give up, just wish more of u guys lived in my neck of the woods

Cool

I flash "peace" signs and flash my lights every day. Most of the time I get no responses but once in a while, just once in a while, someone will return the greeting (usually accompanied by a big toothy smile). It's all well worth it (and it doesn't cost anything!). My wife thinks I'm nuts. (I like using parentheses...)
