I just bought a 2000 silver bug, with the 2.0. It has the leather interior, and the disc changer in the trunk, and I realy realy like it. Its alot more fun to drive than my old Jeep Cherokee, even though my old jeep could smoke this car off the line, and was a hell of alot of fun on the trails.
Its just so fragile. I allready fixed the oil pan twice. I put a hole in it a few weeks ago when I was going down an alley, and then later a rock busted my weld when I was driving into town. Just thought I would share, I'm sure the oil pan is a common problem, and this probably isnt the first time you all have heard of it. |

Welcome to the Org! The oil pan can be a little brittle. If you don't have the plastic belly cover, you might want to look into getting another one from VW or go to www.dieselgeek.com and look into the panzer cover. The plastic one is cheaper but it does offer some protection for the oil pan which is better than no protection.

I might get that skid plate. Its not that much more than a new oil pan. And what damaged the oil pan before would have gone right through a plastic cover anyway. Thanks for the link.
And I love my NB. I put a 12ga. shotgun shell in the bud vase. I'm thinking about putting either white, or red lights underneath, and when I get my EMT certification, its gonna get red/white strobes in the front, and a police radio, along with the custom EMT plates and a star of life decal in the back window ![]() |
