Hello everyone! I'm glad to have found a group that's as crazy about their Beetles as I am!! I just recently got a 2000 NB GLS TDI (Cyber Green). I had always wanted another VW since I had to get rid of my 71 Squareback years ago. This time I am making sure that I can do the work myself, or at least talk my sweetie into it! After purchasing it, and knowing there were no records on the car, many late nights were spent catching up. We replaced the timing belt, crankshaft seal (it was leaking like crazy!), water pump (on its last leg), battery, all other belts, brake fluid, coolant, glow plug housing o ring, etc. Poor thing had been driven hard and nothing done, it seems. So, she's lucky she found us!! I actually cried on the way home from the dealer...I had found my dream car. I was *very* specific with what type of bug (TDI), and options (sunroof, green, stickshift). I was lucky to find it locally. She's going to need a repaint pretty soon, since it doesn't seem like she was garaged.
Thanks for letting me ramble about the newest member of our family! Oh, and by the way, it really pays to get those special tools for VW's...trust me...

barefoot, welcome! if you're in durham you really have to come to NBeast! it's a new beetle only driver meet/fun time/car show and it's being held in durham this year on october 7&8. you'll get to meet all the local NB crazies plus some from out of town and if you have any questions about your car, chances are someone there will be able to answer it.

we're also slated to have the piedmont biodiesel co-op folks on site answering questions and signing up new members.

aaaaand even if you can't make it to NBeast, there's newbug carolinas. membership isn't huge but several of us make a monthly-ish ritual of going to the starlite drive-in theater together on the second friday of the month (provided the movie doesn't suck too much)

so, some essential urls...

http://nbeast.org/
http://newbugcarolinas.org/

and discussion of nbeast can be found on these forums under the events section.

Thank you for such a warm welcome, guys! I'm happy to be here! Yeah, I love being back in NC. We lived in NYC for several years, and I adore NYC, but I just didn't have the "bite me" attitude I needed to survive there! Plus, I have seen what can happen to cars up there...I'm glad I waited to get Shazzie! Spacegrrl, I am so there for the meets!! My kids would love that! I am in their words "the coolest mom at school, since I have the funnest car!" It's funny to see all the parents in their SUVs, pickups, and non-descript compacts. Either black, white, red or blue...then you see Shazzie, all bright green! I wonder if the girl who lives in Durham here with the other Cyber Green is here. The first day I drove Shazzie, she honked the horn at me...I was so stunned, then I realized that some Bug owners still wave and honk, so I'm gonna have to start! Take care!

Hello and Welcome to the Org! I love to honk and wave to other NBs. Sometimes they wave back and sometimes they just look confused but I keep on doing it!

hey
I'm in NC too - over near the coast though

the VW wave: I haven't done too much scientific research into it but...

well I don't have a NB (yet) but when I'm driving one of my air-cooled beetles I will always wave at another (original) Beetle or a classic VW Bus, and I usually will also give a wave to any New Beetles since they're more abundant in the area and are after-all a grand-kid of sorts to the original. I will always get a return (or initiating wave) from the busses or classic Beetles but I don't recall ever getting a wave back from the NB's. So give a VW wave to ALL Beetles!
