Hey y'all,
New to the forum as you can probably tell. Just purchased my first Beetle today: a 2003 Galactic Blue GLS 2.0 5 spd completely stock with 29K miles on it. Quite impressed with my find, if I do say so myself . Looking forward to learning and growing as a VW owner.

Welcome to the Org!

Your 2003, if a dark blue, is not "Shadow" blue. It is "Galactic Blue", the dark blue VW used on NB's in 2003. (we had a 2003 TDI in that color. )

At any rate, you are gonna love it! Congratulations!

Thanks for the info.

So, do NB owners do "the wave"? One of my previous vehicles was a Jeep YJ and everytime you saw another owner, you wave. It was kinda common courtesy.

WELCOME....

Always good to see more people from GA get on this thing. I try to pass the word around down here in the Warner Robins area, and I wave at people. Some of them look at me like I'm crazy (that's a different discussion), but to answer your question... yeah... the wave... it's a Beetle thing.

There's some more folks up in your neck of the woods ("Down the road a piece") and hopefully we'll have a GA GTG bash one of these days. I know that Scott (iscott) is always looking to put something together. Stay tuned...

Thanks for the love y'all. I'm lovin' the Bug life. People in Columbus aren't too keen on the "wave". I've got a couple of waves back, but most of the folks kinda ignore me. Oh well.

I was cleaning my interior last weekend when I discovered that it wasn't a good idea to clean the face of the CD/tape deck. I had somehow gotten some dirt on it and was attempting to scrape it off with my fingernail. Not only did the dirt come off, but some of the black plastic as well. Is this a common problem with VWs? I was debating replacing it with an aftermarket deck anyways, guess the decision has been made.

In the first 2-3 years the NB came out, every NB owner that I came across waved. Lately though I have not had a return wave in months, but I still wave and like you I'm ignored.

Must have been some stubborn dirt.

i always wave like mad and most people don't wave back. but when someone does, it's totally worth it.

and yes, the NBs have this kind of rubbery finish on a lot of the interior items (door grabs, dash, etc.) that WILL come off with your fingernail or just start peeling on it's own. it's a common problem. best to clean with nothing but water or something mild and many "covers" can be found for things like the dash, door grabs, etc.

oh, and welcome to the .org!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Welcome to the org! Lots of 'waves' for you! (corny,eh? lol)

I always thought of waving but never have..I had some old lady in a cyber green finally wave at me yesterday and it made my day so I waved back.. but I actually didn't know about the wave. Now I do, though, so I'll be waving like a crazy person from now on

Well, I finally got around to getting some pics, but they didn't turn out too well. I'll take some more tomorrow. I do have a kinda crummy one from the dealership that I'll attach. I'll also attach a pic of my latest mod: a new shifter boot.

Next project is making a vinyl faceplate for my cassette deck. It looks like crap right now.
