Default Hi From Mississippi! and need advice

Hi Everyone-
I own a 2000 VW Beetle- I am not the original owner but I have had it almost 4 years. I live in South MS where it will get really hot before long. Yesterday my a/c quit - completely. Not blowing hot air, went through that last summer and had fuse under hood replaced. This time it is blowing no air. Local mechanic doesn't know what to do I am taking it to another place tomorrow that has electrical knowledge.
I'm hoping its not the compressor---anyone else had this problem?? Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Did you check all the fuses? I don't know which one it is so I can't help you there. Sit tight. Someone here will be able to help you.

If it isn't blowing any air .... the circulation fan is out, or blocked.

And ... Welcome to the ORG ... it's about time you got here.

Sup. How far south?

Sorry, I don't know how to cure your A/C but I feel your pain. I'll be making it the whole summer w/o mine. I hope. (to make it, not to keep it that way)

Haha, I wonder if they have group discounts on A/C units

I know what you mean, mines not out but it damn sure feels like it, Im in Louisiana so not too far, this weather is bad on any car I believe. How far are you from LA? The VW dealer in Bossier City is fantastic and if you under warranty still they'll fix you right up.

Hi everyone - thanks for all the replies. I have it at another mechanic right now...really hoping that I don't have to buy a new compressor.
To answer a few questions - I am in Pascagoula, MS which is on the coast about 100 miles east of New Orleans and 40 miles west of Mobile AL.
On a different subject - about two weeks ago my 16 year old daughter backed into my passenger door! I will most likely buy a new door and have it installed somewhere. Before my air went out I was checking around at salvage yards for one but with no luck. I haven't checked on line yet, but I'm guessing the shipping will be quite a bit. Anyway, does anyone know of a good website??
Thanks - and I'm glad I found this site!!

Unfortunately I don't know a good website for doors. But I bet you could get one that's being parted out if you keep an eye on the classified section. Becareful though, make sure you don't just give your money away, someone respected and responsible would be a good bet, someone that just signed up to sell some parts wouldn't.

Best place to check online for a door is car-part.com. It is a nationwide database of parts submitted by many recyled parts yards. You may find one at a yard rather close to you ... and maybe even a compressor. My cousins compressor when out on her beetle .... don't know where my cousin in the A/C business got one to fix it ... that was over 2 years ago, but the price I was told was good.

Ha! I wish..... I'm going to have mine checked but I've already been told by one a/c specialist I have to replace the entire system.... I'll be making it through the Florida heat miserably

well the mechanic said I need a new "AC Control head unit" I thnik its in the dash. The whole thing is going to cost me about $270. Should be finished by Thursday.
To littlemully - What did they mean by "the whole system"? Maybe you should get a second opinion...some places don't know that there is a fuse for the a/c under the hood on the battery. Did they check that?

I agree, it's not likely the condenser, the compressor, the orifice , and the controls ALL went bad at the same time...

It sounds more like a "I don't know what's wrong, but I know if I replace everything; I'm bound to replace the broken part too" solution

I'm definitely going to another a/c shop but I wasn't sure if I should just go to a Euro specialist or a generic a/c shop.... I know my boyfriend has tried to troubleshoot a few minor issues it might be such as the fuse etc but no luck so far. It blows hot air only so I doubt everything needs to replaced. I just need to find a reputable shop to have it checked because so far I haven't had much luck...

Last summer mine was only blowing hot air. Two shops couldn't figure it out but a generic mechanic who specializes in electrical problems - they found the fuse problem. Its a little compartment that sits on top of the battery. Unfortunately I needed a whole new circuit (?) or so they said but it costs around $200.
Good LucK!!!
