Question New owner of 2003 beetle

Hi Everyone! I bought a new beetle about a month ago and love it! I bought it second hand and it has really been taken care of, but after owning it for aproximately 3 weeks, the key remote quit locking and unlocking the doors. I replaced the battery but that didn't help. Today I took her to the dealership and they told me it was a bad comfort modulator and it would cost $450.00 to repair!! How can something that major go bad when the car is only 4 years old? They said the car is not reconizing the remote. Has anyone had any experience with this problem or any suggestions as to what else it could be? I've read so many posts about the dealerships ripping people off and feel I need a second opinion. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thanks!!
MA from NC

I don't have a solution for you, but wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum.

If there's been an issue with something like that with someone else on here, there's likely to be a thread about it. I have found out tons of information by doing searches. I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Hey Sunbug!
Did the dealer actually scan the car and give you the DTC(default trouble code) that indicated the comfort system sensor was defective?
If not, then try reprogramming your remote using the steps outlined in the owners manual.
I don't know where you are in NC but there are a few dealers in the state that I would steer way clear of.
If you don't have an owners manual, let us know and we can detail the steps out for ya.
