I'm Heather, wife, mom, soapmaker/chandler, all around pest, and long-time Beetle coveter.

I've always wanted a Beetle, ever since driving around in my mom's '69, Bellybutton:

Well the kids are finally old enough so we can ditch the car seats and the minivan, and I can get my New Beetle. So the kids and I went for a test drive a few weeks ago - in a '06 stick shift, and driving standard really is like riding a bicycle.

I started talking to the salesman, and mentioned that my real dream car is a Beetle that I can run on biodiesel.

"Well, then, why don't you wait until the BlueTec Beetle comes out early next year?" the salesman said.

*dies*

So, I'm not a NB owner just yet, but it'll be soon. It's awfully hard to wait.

Hi Heather! Welcome! There are a few people here that are running bio on their TDI's. I forget who, but I'm sure someone here knows and will chime in soon. I like your Mom's car. Is that you and Mom in that pic?

Hello Heather and welcome to the family. Love the pic. Don't wait until you get your beetle to keep posting. You're now family and we hope to see you around.

And as Ellen said, they're org members- Justin/The Cheat and Skunky Junky, that ran their TDI bugs on bio-diesel. There's also a VW TDI website- can't remember the actual web address. Anyhoo, i'm quite sure there's plenty of bio-diesel tech talk there.

Keep us posted on your saga.

Again, welcome

Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, that's me and my mom in the photo - I'm about 3, I'd say. Bellybutton is still on the road - we see her occasionally.

I've been combing eBay all night looking at the TDIs, going to dealer websites, especially after doing some reading today and finding out that the Bluetec Beetle might not happen after all. Buying a diesel, and the whole biodiesel thing, is on the top of the list in things we want in a car at this point, and well, my first two cars were VW Rabbits, so I'm more than ready to get back behind the wheel of a VW.

(Besides, my birthday is in a week, and wouldn't that be the bestest birthday present ever? )

Hi, Heather!

I love your story! I hope you find a New Beetle. But, read all of these forums, and you may see that a New Beetle will call out to you.... Trust me!

That is the first time I have heard of "BlueTec" New Beetle.

Any more info?

Welcome to the Org!

I know a lot of people pooh-pooh Wikipedia, but their article on BlueTec is a good starting place.

I was told at the dealership that the BlueTec New Beetles were supposed to come out some time between December '07 and Spring '08 - but then did quite a bit of reading online about the potential redesign of the NB, and how the BlueTec engine may never make it into the NB because of that.

So I went to eBay (which in this family, is really dangerous ) and as soon as I can find someone to drive me to PA, I will have this:

He's perfect!! He's a '98 TDI, and he's a stick shift!

I feel like I just ordered a mail-order husband!

Interesting article. Now I am aware of it.

Well, not a BlueTec, but it is a Techno Blue TDI!

Good luck to you with your eBay purchase. I'd be chicken to buy a car from eBay.
