New Here from Illinois

Hi I am new here just today thanks to Mitch on the topica site.. I am the proud owner of a 1998
VW New Beetle that is painted like a soccer ball. I was told when I
bought the car that it was won by someone locally and they traded it in.
I was told this was a Frito Lay promotion that gave the cars away. I
have paperwork of the promotion that was run. I am trying to find out
more information about the promotion and whether or not Frito Lay was
really involved. I called Frito Lay's consumer affairs division and
they said they never ran the promotion. Maybe the Mexico division of
Frito Lay ran it. I e-mailed the Mexico division but haven't heard
anything back. I know the port of entry for my car was Houston and it
was painted by a company called Mike's Customs in Irving, TX. I called
the phone number and it is someone's house now.

Just wondering if anyone had any insight they could add?

Hi and welcome! I've seen your car at a show. Don't ask me where I just remember seing one Someone here might be able to help. The'll chime in sooner or later So do you have any pics of your car? We'd love to see it! What part of Illinois are you from? I live in Arlington Heights.

I live in Maple Park. I am about 10 miles from St. Charles.

not too far really. I go that way to work sometimes. Jen lives near you. We'll have to have a GTG. There's a show in plainfield at Poms Poms August 26th(Sunday) It's for air and water cooled. I'll be going to it, just not sure if I'll enter my car or not.

I think I am going to be going to that show. I am doing the show in Elburn next Sunday too.

Elburn? Where? I know MofoCo is having their show 8/19 at great lakes dragway in wisconsin. (import wars same day so it'll be crowded) They usually have the bikini wars so the guys like to go to that one

Elburn is the town right next to Maple Park. I saw the flyer for MofoCo but opted to just do the local show. The last time I did the MofoCo show was in 2003 the day I found out I was pregnant.

I agree I thought it was a little pricey. I will get the flyer out of my car on my lunch and give you the details. That would be cool to have more bugs there. Ya know alot of the classic car guys aren't that into the imports.

I don't know about a promotion that led to it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't out there.

The Elburn car show is Sunday August 19th. Registration is $15 at the gate. It says Rain or Shine. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and closes at noon. Parking is by arrival only and no saving spaces. Open Classes over 40 awards to be presented at 3:30 p.m.

Best of Show
Best Paint
Best Engine
50/50 drawing
No dogs allowed
Music by Carousel Sound

This show is the same time as Elburn Days and there will be food tents, beer garden and games and rides.
