Default Beetle Battery

I'm charging my OEM Beetle Battery (99 Beetle). Its been on for about 5 hours and now there's a strange smell from it - almost like there is no water in it and its burning.

I turned it off for now but do you know if there's a way of refilling the water? I can't seem to see the place to do this, at least not easily! If this doesn't work I'll buy a new battery.

Any ideas?

I would probably just buy a new battery , its probably the original one from 99 and it most likely Dead .

Cool

If you are considering replacing the battery on your own. Here's a handy thread, with much thanks to Antoine, on how to do this correctly:

Thanks for the replies.

I went out and bought a new one this morning, I looked up a previous how-to on how to take the battery out so all was good. Thanks again
